passed away peacefully at her home on
Tuesday, July 27, 2010
.
Agnes
was a member of the First United Methodist Church of
Island Heights, where she served as the church organist
for 30 years, before retiring in 2005. She also worked as
a home health aide for the Visiting Homemaker Service from
1971 to 1977. She was born in
Newark
and moved to
Toms
River
in 1968. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George
W. Lentz in 2004, her mother Jessie Nesmith Duncan in
1977, her father Alfred Duncan in 1981, and her mother and
father in law George and Helen Lentz, and her brother in
law Gary Lentz in 2001.
Agnes
is survived by her two sons, Craig and Eric Lentz of Toms
River; sister and brother in law, Marion and Bob Williams
of Ft. Meyers,
FL.
; Brother in law and sister in law, pat and Leonard Lentz
of Point Pleasant.
Friends

. Peter was a fireman with the Newark Fire Department for
25 years, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the
Fireman’s Benevolent Association. He proudly served as a
paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a
communicant of St. Maximilian-Kolbe Catholic Church. Peter
was born and raised in

and lived in
Old
Bridge
for 30 years where he raised his family before moving to
Berkeley Twp. 13 years ago.
He
is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara

is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Angela Costa

Robert
received his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering
from Steven’s
Institute

Technology
. He worked as a civilian for the US Army for 36 years,
before retiring in 1994. In that time he earned the US
Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 1994 for
Director, Survivability Equipment Division; Official
Commendation for Outstanding Performance as Chief,
Electronic Warfare Systems Division and was awarded a
medal from CECOM Night Vision & Electronic Sensors
Directorate. He was Supervisory Electronics Engineer from
1988 to 1994 at US Army CECOM,
Ft.
Monmouth
and served as Division Director of the Survivability
Equipment Division, responsible for research and
production of electro-optical, radar and infrared
countermeasure systems, providing 95% of all electronic
warfare systems to the US Army. His division was
responsible for over 40 contracts with companies ranging
from small business owners to “Fortune 500” companies,
with a total value of over 1 billion dollars. He was a
member of the United States Army Acquisition Corp. Bob was
a member of the CrossPoint Baptist Church in Farmingdale
and served as assistant pastor. He was also actively
involved with Dedication Evangelism, a world wide outreach
ministry located in
Towaco
,
NJ
. Born in Passaic, Bob grew up in Garfield, moving to the
Monmouth County area in 1958.
He
is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arlene Hartmann

Minnie
was born and raised in
Worcester

MA
and trained to become an RN at
Hahnemann
Hospital
before moving to
Philadelphia
where she met her husband Robert.
They moved to
Pennsauken
in 1949 where her life revolved around her family, her
church and her community.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of
Merchantville. The
Pennsauken First Aid Squad honored Minnie and Bob in
December, 1977, as life members for their many years of
service. She summered in
Island
Heights
from 1963 and retired there in 1977. She was active in the
Island Heights Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary, a past
recipient of the Dorothy Hummel award and an honorary life
member. Minnie
was also a member of the
East
Dover
Baptist
Church
,
Toms
River
. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, Meals on
Wheels and was State Chairman of the ABCNJ White Cross.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years,
Robert Schmicker, in 2008.
She

Catrina of Rye, NY, and James Schmicker and his wife Susan
of Severna Park, MD; three daughters, Betty Schmicker-Black

was the son of James and Elizabeth Kennedy, born and
raised in the Kereigh Head Section of Elizabeth.
Harold worked for the City of Elizabeth Water Utility
Department for 25 years, retiring in 1982, and moved to
Toms
River
. Harold proudly served in the US Army during World Way
II, and was a member of the American Legion, George P.
Vanderveer Post 129 of Toms River. He was a communicant
of St. Justin’s Catholic Church and was a member of
St. Justin’s senior citizens. He was past officer of
the Gilford Park Civic Club and former member of the
Gilford Park Yacht Club.
He
was predeceased by his loving wife Ann (nee: Perrit)
Kennedy in 1997, and a brother Thomas Kennedy in 1990.
Harold is survived by: two brothers. James Kennedy of

her spirituality and her caring for all whom she met.
She was indeed a child of God. The last of her loving
family, Lisa was predeceased by her mother, Stella,
father, Peter R., and her brother Peter C. Fujarcyk, and
her husband James Kurzynowski.

retired in 1987 as a supervisor for Mobil Oil
Corporation, NY, after 26 years service.

and her son in law Robert Walsh, in 2008.
Hope is survived by two daughter’s Joyce and her

1958 until her retirement in 1988. She was the
Coordinator of Nurses for the Brick Schools. Many, many
children benefited from her compassionate care as a
school nurse. She also taught courses for school nurses
at Jersey City State College and the

New Jersey
and supervised student nurses. During the summers she
was an Emergency Room nurse at
Point Pleasant
Hospital
. Marie enjoyed skiing and golf with her friends and
nephews. She was a wiz at the NY Times crossword puzzles
and an avid Yankee baseball fan.
She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa,
Brick Retired Teachers and a volunteer for Caregivers of
Point Pleasant and several
Alexandria
charities.

worked passionately as the administrative assistant for

in the Ocean County Engineering Department for over 30
years. Most of her free time, was supporting her
husband at Admiral Farragut Academy (AFA) and some of
her fondest memories are of the parades, concerts,
dances and sporting events held at the academy each
year. She truly loved all aspects of her life and
embraced life with gusto. Those who knew her would
agree.
Julia
was a member of
St. Joseph
’s Church of Toms River, the local organ club and was
an avid bridge player as well. She relished her lifelong
friends from the local area and the alumni from AFA. She
had great stories to tell about

, Department of the Army with 30 years of civil service.

born son, Vincenzo. He is survived by his loving wife,

Digna was born in La Romana,

November 7, 1935
to Alejandro and Herminda Rodriguez Reyes. She attended
El Palacio Nacional for her acting and modeling studies
in
Santo Domingo
, where she went on to model and act in telenovellas.
Digna moved to
New York City
in 1960, where she met and married Dr. Alberto Lamela.
She designed and created her own beautiful and
meticulously embroidered evening gowns, which were worn
to social events at the Waldorf Astoria in
Manhattan
. Later in life, she enjoyed traveling to
Mexico
and
Europe
as well as spending time with her granddaughters.
She was predeceased by
her son Fernando Lamela, who passed away as an infant.
She is greatly missed by her loving children, Regina M.

and Eric A. Lamela,
Texas
, as well as her grandchildren, Gigi and Ali Briggs and
Carlos Lamela. She also has an older sister who

as her grace and elegance; she was the true epitome of a

Anthony
worked for the A&P Tea Co. as a meat manager at
several stores in the
New Jersey
area for 35 years before retiring in 1992. He then
worked as a butcher for Mid-Shore Meats of Toms River
from 1992 to 2005. Anthony was a proud Navy veteran
having served during World War II. Born in

and lived in

before moving to Toms River 10 years ago. His wife of 49
years, Phyllis Cavallo Anello, predeceased him in 2003.

to John and Sarah Cunningham in
Irvington

May 9, 1921
, Mrs. Schrumpf moved from
Northern New Jersey
to Sea Girt in 1953 with her husband, John L. ‘Jack’
Schrumpf, the former noted three sport All State Athlete
and nationally renowned sports official. Mr. & Mrs.
Schrumpf moved to Colts Neck in 1961, but later
relocated to the
Monmouth
Shore
area.
Mrs.
Schrumpf was a housewife and was a well known Republican
Party activist and supporter. She was involved with the
campaigns of numerous
Republican
Party
State
nominees and elected officials, as well as Presidential
campaigns from Dwight Eisenhower to George W. Bush. She
was an advisor to several
Monmouth
County
government officials, receiving countless commendations,
letters of thanks and personalized mementos.
Mrs.
Schrumpf was predeceased by her husband Jack, who died
in 1998, and her daughter Nancy Schrumpf, a local
realtor, who died in 2008.
Surviving are her two sons, John Schrumpf Lawrence and
David Wayne Schrumpf; her niece Judith Good, and five
grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Being naturally artistic, she found her first career as
a jewelry store manager. She may be remembered from
Zales in the Ocean County Mall or Marcus Jewelers in
Paramus
. After a serious automobile accident on the NJ
Turnpike, she changed careers to health care and was
last employed at the Cranford Health and
Extended
Care
Center
as Director of Admissions. Her friends and family
know her as a gourmet cook and collector of cookbooks.

husband, father and pop-pop. One of his favorite days

spoil. Loren will be remembered for his sense of humor,
his kind heart and his desire to always help others.
There are no words to express what a wonderful man he

August 23, 2009
of complications of pancreatic cancer.
Anthony was born in
Newark

NJ
on
March 27, 1926
. In 1943 he answered his country’s call and enlisted
in the Air Force at the age of 17 putting the completion
of his high school education on hold until many years
later. He served as a mechanic chief on B-24 and B-29
Bombers. Anthony’s lifetime occupation was a printer.
Until retirement he was the owner of Print-Rite
located in
Irvington
NJ
, a family owned printing and publishing business.
Anthony was the third generation to manage the business.
Anthony was an accomplished artist and worked in
water-colors and clay. Throughout his life he was an
active member of his community serving in both church
and civil volunteer positions. Anthony was a
faithful parishioner of the Church of the Visitation and
served as a CCD teacher and Usher.
Anthony was also a member of the Knight’s of
Columbus
in
Irvington
NJ
. Anthony served as a volunteer to the NJ Division of
Fish, Game and Wildlife. He enjoyed taking part in
off-shore fish surveys, deer check surveys, and as a
tour guide at the
Cranberry
Bog
Education
Center
. Anthony
was also a member of the Pt Pleasant Coast Guard
Auxiliary. In addition he served as a helper for the
County of Ocean Board of Elections for 15 years.
Anthony was a member of American legion Post 0348 in
Brick,
New Jersey
.
Anthony
was a faithful friend of Bill W. and worked for over 28
years offering help to others when they needed it most.
No one could tell a story better than Anthony.
He enjoyed most of his trips to sea during the
fish surveys and would talk for hours about his
adventures. His
family, especially his grandchildren, always enjoyed
listening.
Anthony is survived by his wife of 63 years Eunice (Gorski),
his brother Fabian, his Sister Doris Gladowicz, his

was proud to have served in the United States Army as a
parachuter during the Vietnam War.
Mr. Henn was still currently working for
Ciba-Geigy of
Toms
River
, as a pipe fitter and welder, he had over 50 years of
dedicated service. He
was a communicant of
St. Joseph
’s RC Church, of
Toms
River
, and was a referee for more than 15 years for Shore
Soccer Association.
Mr.
Henn was predeceased by his beloved wife of 31 years
Theresa (nee Rizzuto) in 1993.
He is survived by his devoted children twin
daughter’s and their husbands Theresa and Fernando Dos
Santos, of Chester, NY, Michele and Nick Giordano of
Beachwood, NJ and John, Jr. of Monsey, NY.
He is also survived by his sister and “best
friend” Elizabeth Stieglitz, of Beachwood, his
treasured grandchildren Vincent Ciarla, and twins
Theresa and Antonio Dos Santos.
He also leaves his companion Sandy Dueban of
Barnegat.

Charlie enjoyed an active participation with this group

was also a lifetime member of the Roselle Park Volunteer
Fire Dept. with 30 years of service with the Lorraine
Hose Company.
Charlie’s

He was an aviation metal smith at the Lakehurst
Naval Air Station for the U.S. Navy Lighter-than-Air
Blimp program. Ernie transferred to the Lakehurst Naval
Air Station Fire Department, and then went on to work
for the Toms River School System as a custodian before
retiring. Ernie was a life member and ex-chief of the
Toms River Fire Company No. 2. He was an exempt Fireman
in the New Jersey State Fireman’s Relief Association
and an instructor with the
Ocean
County
Fire
Academy
. He was a past member of the Ocean County String Band
and a member of the
Island

Clifford
W. Chapman, 74, of Lakewood, NJ died peacefully at
his home on Thursday, April 9, after a long struggle
with multiple sclerosis.
Cliff was
born in Bethlehem, PA, the son of the late Clifford W.
and the late Florence A. (Bastian) Chapman and the
brother of the late Francis Chapman of Racine, WI.
He was a long-time resident of NJ having lived in
Maywood, Jersey City, Montvale and Lakewood.
Following graduation from Dickinson High School in
Jersey City he started working for Western Electric
before enlisting in the Navy in 1953. He served on the
USS Hazelwood (DD-531) as a Quartermaster Third Class
during the Korean War. After being honorably
discharged, he returned to Western Electric (now
AT&T) where he worked 35 years before retiring as a
Manager of Tax Operations. On November 8, 1958, he
married Arline Marian Westhoff of Jersey City. He
was graduated from Seton Hall University in 1967 with a
B.S. in Accounting after eight years of night school.
Cliff was a loving father of two children and devoted
husband for over 50 years. He was a baseball and
soccer coach for his children and a doting grandfather.
He was a member of the VFW Post 8946 of Woodcliff Lake,
American Legion Post 348 of Brick, the Fishing Club of

moving to Toms River in 1999. Juliette was predeceased
by her beloved husband of 61 years, Louis W. Closter in
2002 and a sister Mabel Luciano in 2008.

Beloved
husband of the late Jane (2004) he is survived by six
children; Robert Barnett, June Barnett, Sheryl Barnett,
Jerome and Donna Barnett, Edward and Diane Barnett and
Richard Barnett. Six grandchildren; Audra and John Yacka,
Michael and Darla Reed, Justyn Hosier, McKenzie Barnett,
David and Elliot Barnett and their mother Mary Mitchell
Barnett; six great grandchildren; Joey, Syvanna, Zoe,
David, Dylan and Christian.
David was
born and raised in
Philadelphia
. A talented musician, he played professionally for over
sixty-six years. He was proud to be a lifetime member of
the Philadelphia Musicians Union. He played with many
Big Bands in the 40’s and 50’s getting his start at
the famous Palumbos Night Club. Dave toured from New
England to
Texas
with the Hal Macintyre, Mal Hallet and the Chan Chandler
Bands along with limited engagements with Eddie Duchin
and Fats Waller. Coming off the road he and his wife
settled their family on
Long Beach
Island
in 1956 where they owned Barnett’s Custard Stand, now
known as the Islander Restaurant. He also served on the
Ship Bottom Borough Council.
In 1965 he
moved his family to
Toms
River
where he was employed at the Jersey Shore Savings and
Loan. In addition to his day job, he played with many
local wedding and dance bands, most notably: The Murray
Kay Band in
Lakewood
, the Blazers and the Joe, Mike, David Band in the
Toms
River
area. David played at many
Jersey
Shore
hot spots including the Anchor Inn and Olsen’s Bar and
Grill.
In 1989 he
retired to
Putney
,
VT
after twenty-six years as a Vice President of
Jersey
Shore Savings and Loan. While caring for his ailing
wife, he played for many bands in
Vermont
and
New Hampshire
, most notably the American Legion Band and its
Dixieland ensemble. He will be missed by his large
family and many friends.

Pfeiffer Gebhardt Wilchuck, died peacefully on
January 26, 2009 in the comfort of her home in Toms
River.
She was
75. Born July 4th 1933 in Bronx, New York, the daughter
of Clara and William Matey. She lived in Hudson County
for several years and moved to Toms River 31 years ago.
She was a loving mother and friend and she will be
greatly missed.
She is
survived by her loving husband Michael Wilchuck and was
a devoted mother of three daughters, Christine, Carol
and Kathleen; six sons, Peter, David, Robert, William,
Michael and Kenneth, and many grandchildren and great
grandchildren, and her pooch Bailey.
She’s
crystallized in every tear drop. She is the place that
we came from, our first home, and she’s the map that
we follow with every step we took. She’s our first
love, our first heartbreak and nothing on earth can
separate us. Not time, not space…not even death.
