Agnes R. Lentz, 80 of Toms River passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Agnes was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Island Heights, where she served as the church organist for 30 years, before retiring in 2005. She also worked as a home health aide for the Visiting Homemaker Service from 1971 to 1977. She was born in Newark and moved to Toms River in 1968. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George W. Lentz in 2004, her mother Jessie Nesmith Duncan in 1977, her father Alfred Duncan in 1981, and her mother and father in law George and Helen Lentz, and her brother in law Gary Lentz in 2001.

Agnes is survived by her two sons, Craig and Eric Lentz of Toms River; sister and brother in law, Marion and Bob Williams of Ft. Meyers, FL. ; Brother in law and sister in law, pat and Leonard Lentz of Point Pleasant.

Margaret Botta, 79 of Toms River , passed away Monday, July 12, 2010 at the Holiday Care Center

Her favorite hobbies included gambling and walking the boardwalk in Atlantic City . Born and raised in Bronx , New York , she lived in Ridgefield Park before moving to Toms River . Margaret was predeceased by her beloved husband Nicholas on May 1, 2010 .

She is survived by her five children, Steven, Debra and Linda of New Jersey, William of New York and Chris of Connecticut; and 8 loving grandchildren, Lauren, William, Darrin, Nicholas, Rachel, Haley, Zach and Jake.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 with an 8:30 pm funeral service  at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River

Peter Vincent McGrath, 76, of Berkeley Twp., passed away Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at the Van Dyke Hospice Center,

Toms River . Peter was a fireman with the Newark Fire Department for 25 years, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Fireman’s Benevolent Association. He proudly served as a paratrooper in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian-Kolbe Catholic Church. Peter was born and raised in Newark and lived in Old Bridge for 30 years where he raised his family before moving to Berkeley Twp. 13 years ago. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Barbara Saunders McGrath; son, Timothy V. McGrath of Toms River ; two daughters, Jeanne Ramsay of Somerville and Kathleen Gilbert and her husband Mark of Old Bridge; a brother Joseph McGrath of Henderson , NV ; and 5 cherished grandchildren, Cliff, Christopher, Samantha, Jessica and Travis.

Charles J. Mayer, 79 of Lakewood , passed away Saturday, June 18, 2010 , at the Van Dyke Hospice Center, Toms River

Charles was a Mosquito Control Commissioner for Ocean County . He attended the First United Methodist Church of Island Heights. He was a member of the Garden State Boat Modelers, and a former Vice-President of the Battle Ship NJ Historical Museum Society. He was also a member of the Harmony Masonic Lodge No. 18 F&AM of Toms River . Charles was born in Kearny , NJ and lived most of his life in Toms River and Island Heights , moving to Harrogate in Lakewood in 2006. He was predeceased by his brother David Mayer and his sister Jean Mayer.

Charles is survived by his beloved wife Ruth Winship Mayer; two sons, Burt Mayer of Toms River and Harry Mayer of Medford , NJ ; and two cherished granddaughters, Christina and Kimberly.

Nora T. Darragh, nee Tracy , 71, passed away Friday, May 28 at the Geraldine L.  Thompson Care Center in Allenwood. 

Born in Jersey City to Richard and Mary Tracy, she lived there most of her life. Retiring from the Hudson County Violations Bureau in 1996, she moved to Little Egg Harbor. 

She was predeceased by her daughter, Tracey Doherty; her brother Richard Tracy and his wife Patricia; and Kathleen Tracy, her sister-in-law. 
She is survived by her husband Robert; brothers Thomas Tracy and
his wife Jeanette and Patrick Tracy, her twin. Celebrating her life are her sons Michael and William Doherty and William's wife Melissa; daughters Christine Schoch and her husband Richard, Noreen Doherty and her husband Wayne Baptiste, Allison Desomma, and Sharon Doherty and her husband James Burke. She is also survived by an extended and loving family of 10 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, 7 stepchildren, 14 step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Edward R. Opiekun, 81, of Brick, passed away Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Kimball Medical Center

Edward worked for Public Service Electric & Gas in Linden for 40 years before retiring as a supervisor in 1987. He was an active member of St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Brick.  Born and raised in Jessup , PA , he grew up in Nutley and lived in Irvington and Newark before moving to Brick in 1982. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne in 1994, a brother Andrew and his sister Beatrice Sobotor.

Edward is survived by his son Richard and his wife Maryanne of Brick, his brother James Opiekun of Florida and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

Richard W. Heagen 79 of Toms River, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at VanDyke Hospice Care Center in Toms River

Richard worked for the Toms River Parks and Recreation Department for 15 years as a refrigeration engineer, retiring in 1993. He proudly served in the United State Marines. Richard was a skilled archer and a member of the Bow Benders of Jackson Township. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Born and raised in Jersey City he moved to Toms River in 1962.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Angela Costa Heagen; four children, Susan Snyder of Toms River, Judy Ullmann of Knoxville, TN, Richard of Delray Beach, FL, and Matthew of Toms River; a sister, Doris Brown of Danville, CA; and nine loving grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis, Whitney, William, Tara, Ryan, Matthew, Luke and Caroline.

Anthony Capaccio, Jr. 67 of Lakewood , passed away Friday, May 14, 2010 at his home. 

He was an equipment operator for the Essex County Parks Department for many years. He was a member of the Men’s Club, the bowling and bocce leagues at the Fairways at Lake Ridge. Born in Newark , he lived in Belleville before moving to Lakewood in 1999. 

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Theresa in 2000, his son Anthony III in 2008,  and sisters Elaine Raymond and Phyllis Comito
Surviving are his devoted daughter, Dana Capaccio; four grandchildren, Tara Baldassare, Anthony Capaccio IV, Michael Capaccio and Nikki Ann Franciose; sister, Lena Fano; three brothers, Frank, John and James Capaccio; extended family member John Keene and many nieces and nephews.

Robert W. Aumueller, 73 of Howell Twp. went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 9, 2010

Robert received his bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering from Steven’s Institute of Technology . He worked as a civilian for the US Army for 36 years, before retiring in 1994. In that time he earned the US Commander’s Award for Civilian Service in 1994 for Director, Survivability Equipment Division; Official Commendation for Outstanding Performance as Chief, Electronic Warfare Systems Division and was awarded a medal from CECOM Night Vision & Electronic Sensors Directorate. He was Supervisory Electronics Engineer from 1988 to 1994 at US Army CECOM, Ft. Monmouth and served as Division Director of the Survivability Equipment Division, responsible for research and production of electro-optical, radar and infrared countermeasure systems, providing 95% of all electronic warfare systems to the US Army. His division was responsible for over 40 contracts with companies ranging from small business owners to “Fortune 500” companies, with a total value of over 1 billion dollars. He was a member of the United States Army Acquisition Corp. Bob was a member of the CrossPoint Baptist Church in Farmingdale and served as assistant pastor. He was also actively involved with Dedication Evangelism, a world wide outreach ministry located in Towaco , NJ . Born in Passaic, Bob grew up in Garfield, moving to the Monmouth County area in 1958.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Arlene Hartmann Aumueller; sons, Brian Aumueller and his wife Karen of Newtown, CT., Tim Aumueller of Farmingdale; daughter, Cheri Aumueller of New York and a grandson, Zach of Newtown, CT.

Robert C. Scappaticcio, 31 of Toms River , passed away on Friday, May 7, 2010

He worked in the shore area building and repairing bulkheads, a job he truly enjoyed. He was a member of the Abundant Grace Church in Toms River where he was involved with the men’s bible study. Born and raised in Jersey City , he moved to the shore area in 1994. 

Robert was predeceased by his parents, Louis and Marion Scappaticcio, a brother Anthony and his sister Linda Smagalla.
Surviving are his fiancée, Terri Wheeler, his daughter Madison Maureen Scappaticcio and his brother Vincent.

Nicholas Botta, 74 of Toms River , passed away on Saturday, May 1, 2010 . Nicholas worked as a tractor trailer driver for United Parcel Service and retired after 35 years of service. He proudly served our country in the US Army. Born in the Bronx, he lived in New York and Ridgefield Park before moving to Toms River . He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Botta and his sister Viola.

He is survived by his wife Margaret; his children Nancy, Nicholas and Christopher; his step children Steven, Debra, Linda, William and Chris; a brother Carl, two sisters Marie and Theresa; his niece Irene and her husband Larry; a nephew Michael and 8 step grandchildren.

Jeffrey Caballero, 21 of Toms River , passed away Monday, May 03, 2010 . He was involved with the wrestling team at Toms River Intermediate North and attended High School North. He was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church. Born in Toms River , he lived in the Philippines for several years before moving back to Toms River .

Jeffrey is survived by his devoted parents Donato and Delia Caballero of Toms River ; two brothers, Don Caballero and his wife Jen deVera, and Charles Caballero and his fiancée Beverly Inovero,; two sisters, Gillian Bergonio and her husband Francis and Angela Caballero; two nieces, Kylie and Alessa; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins.

Marion De Young, 83, of Toms River , passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010 at her home. She was born in Harrison and lived in Kearny for many years before moving to Toms River in 1984. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Edward in 2003.

Marion is survived by her devoted children, Edward De Young of Pittsgrove, NJ, Janice Dennis of Toms River, and Elaine De Young of Hackettstown; her 7 loving grandchildren, Bryan, Barbara, Jason, Jamie, Thomas, Joseph and Bridget, and great grandson Joshua.

Frank Benito Giannetti, Jr., 82 of Toms River passed away on Monday, April 19, 2010

Frank was a sheet metal worker and worked for over 60 years with the Sheet Metal Workers International Association, Local Union 25 of North Jersey and was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church, Toms River . He proudly served in the US Army during World War II. Frank was born in Paterson and lived there most of his life before moving to Toms River in 1983. He was predeceased by his daughter Carmen Giannetti of Paterson .

Surviving are his beloved wife of 56 years, Isabel, his son Frank Giannetti, III and his wife Dora of Toms River, two daughters, Gloria Hage and her husband Sam of Manasquan, and Joan Demko and her husband Tom of Bayville, and six loving grandchildren, Claudia, Natalie, Kirsten, Fankie IV, Nicolas and Mia Isabella.

Minnie L. Schmicker, 90, a long time resident of Pennsauken and Island Heights , passed away on Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Minnie was born and raised in Worcester , MA and trained to become an RN at Hahnemann Hospital before moving to Philadelphia where she met her husband Robert.  They moved to Pennsauken in 1949 where her life revolved around her family, her church and her community.  She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Merchantville.  The Pennsauken First Aid Squad honored Minnie and Bob in December, 1977, as life members for their many years of service. She summered in Island Heights from 1963 and retired there in 1977. She was active in the Island Heights Yacht Club Ladies Auxiliary, a past recipient of the Dorothy Hummel award and an honorary life member.  Minnie was also a member of the East Dover Baptist Church , Toms River . She volunteered for the American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels and was State Chairman of the ABCNJ White Cross. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 59 years, Robert Schmicker, in 2008.

She is survived by two sons, Robert Schmicker and his wife Catrina of Rye, NY, and James Schmicker and his wife Susan of Severna Park, MD; three daughters, Betty Schmicker-Black and her husband Kevin of Los Alamitos, CA, Linda Wheatley and her husband Geoffrey of English Creek, NJ, and Susan DeScioli and her husband Louis of Kingwood, TX; and nine loving grandchildren, Gregory, Nancy and Thomas Schmicker, James and Adrian Black, Patricia and Louis DeScioli, and Katherine and Emily Schmicker.

Visitation will be held at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River on Friday from 7 to 9 pm and Saturday from 10 until service time at 11:30 . Joel H. Laster, 63 of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010. 

Joel worked as a security guard for CNA Insurance Co., of Neptune . His passion was sports, and he enjoyed coaching Little League, Basketball, Soft Ball and Soccer in Long Branch .  He was born and raised in Newark , and lived most of his life in Long Branch , moving to Toms River 3 years ago.

He is survived by his companion, Patricia Carney, his son Robert Carney and daughter Amanda Carney, both of Toms River , his sister, Marilyn Arnone, of Ft. Meyers , FL., his aunt Florence Myers and uncle Philip Myers.

Nancy Taylor Blanchette, 55 of Manchester Township , passed away on Sunday, April 04, 2010 .

Nancy loved and enjoyed nature especially caring for and feeding the birds around her home. She was born in Newark and lived in Jackson before moving to Manchester 30 years ago.

She is survived by her loving husband Rodger, her son William Raney of Manahawkin, her daughter Diane Kimball of Manchester, her brother, Nelson Taylor of Ocean Gate; her sisters Susan Archer of N.C., Diane Muirhead of Pine Beach, Linda Taylor of Jackson, Barbara Williamson of Toms River, and her six beloved grandchildren.

Harold ‘Harry’ A. Kennedy, 89, of Toms River , passed away, Monday, March 22, 2010

He was the son of James and Elizabeth Kennedy, born and raised in the Kereigh Head Section of Elizabeth.  Harold worked for the City of Elizabeth Water Utility Department for 25 years, retiring in 1982, and moved to Toms River . Harold proudly served in the US Army during World Way II, and was a member of the American Legion, George P. Vanderveer Post 129 of Toms River. He was a communicant of St. Justin’s Catholic Church and was a member of St. Justin’s senior citizens. He was past officer of the Gilford Park Civic Club and former member of the Gilford Park Yacht Club. 

He was predeceased by his loving wife Ann (nee: Perrit) Kennedy in 1997, and a brother Thomas Kennedy in 1990.
Harold is survived by: two brothers. James Kennedy of Toms River and Patrick Kennedy of Garwood and several nieces and nephews.

John Evers, 79 of Seaside Park , passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010 at VanDyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center , Toms River

He worked as a printer for Brewster Textiles of Paterson for 15 years. He graduated from Hawthorne High School and then served in the Air Force during the Korean War. John was a member of the Seaside Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge No. 1863 of Fairlawn. Born and raised in Prospect Park , he lived in Fairlawn, moving to Seaside Park in 1998.

He was predeceased by his wife Lois Meire Evers in 2002.
Surviving are his two children: Linda Carey of Suffern, NY; and Daniel Evers of Fairlawn; 5 loving grandchildren, Christina, Daniel, Billy, Danielle and Nicole; and two sisters, Esther Wartena of Atascadero, CA, and Ruth Prall of Point Pleasant.

Lisa Jane Fujarcyk Kurzynowski, 59 of Island Heights , passed away Saturday, February 27, at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

She summered in Island Heights most of her life with her family, moving here from Essex County , permanently 20 years ago. Lisa was a graduate of Tufts University Masters Program, a former Miss Ocean County , a talented artist and a splendid elementary teacher. We will remember Lisa for her loving empathy for others, her spirituality and her caring for all whom she met. She was indeed a child of God. The last of her loving family, Lisa was predeceased by her mother, Stella, father, Peter R., and her brother Peter C. Fujarcyk, and her husband James Kurzynowski.

Left to remember the good times are her dearest friends, Elizabeth Ooms, Lucille Buonocore, Tatiana Shiloff, Burt Mayer and Burt’s extended family.

Hope J. Hartmann, (nee Joyce) age 88, of Stockholm, Hardyston Township passed away on Sunday February 28, 2010 at her daughter’s home in Wall Township.  

Mrs. Hartmann was born in Gilmerton , VA and had lived in the Lake Tamarack section of Stockholm since 1947.  She retired in 1987 as a supervisor for Mobil Oil Corporation, NY, after 26 years service.  Hope enjoyed her many world travels and trips to Atlantic City .

She was predeceased by her Husband John L. in 1973, her son John E.  in 2000 and her son in law Robert Walsh, in 2008. 
Hope is survived by two daughter’s Joyce and her husband John Fielder of Wall, and Janet R. Walsh of Hopewell .  One son Jay T. Hartmann of Forked River and her loving niece Joyce Stewart of Brick.   She is also survived by five grandchildren Robin White, Lori Maliff, Douglas Fielder, Kaitlyn and Kyle Walsh and three great grandchildren Alexis Fielder, Ronan and Reilly Maliff.

A gathering of relatives and friends will be held on Saturday March 13, 2010 from 10:30 am till the time of the Memorial service at 11:00 am , at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue , Toms River, NJ 08753.

Adair ‘Mitzi’ Ascough, 80 of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at Rose Garden Care Center

She worked for JCP&L as an office manager and Supervisor for many years at the Point Pleasant and Allenhurst offices. She was a former member of the Manasquan Presbyterian Church and was currently a member of the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. She spent much of her time with her grandchildren, sewing and doing crafts. Mitzi was born in Passaic and lived in Manasquan for 35 years, moving to Toms River 20 years ago. She was predeceased by her brother William Xiques of Brick.

Surviving are:
Her husband of 62 years, Harold W. Ascough; son Glenn and his wife Maryellen of Toms River; daughter, Gail Ascough of Beachwood; grandchildren, Thomas, Ashley and Jeffrey Ascough, Lyndsie Hierlmaier and Kelsey Doyle; brother, Kenneth Xiques and his wife Gloria of Delaware; sister Dee DeBow and her husband Glenn of Manchester.

Doris Eve Schon, 85 of Toms River , passed away Friday, February 19 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Doris worked as a bookkeeper for Gerald Container Co., of Edgely,Pa for 35 years. Her two passions were her family, especially her loving children and grandchildren and the shore. Born in Hamilton Square, NJ , she lived in Fairless Hills and Levittown , PA before moving to Toms River 5 years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Schon; her children Glenn Schon, Lynn MacBean, Kathy Horvath and Andrea Borman; her grandchildren , Sarah, Meaghan, James and the love of her life, Alex; a brother Lachlan MacBean and his wife Rene; a sister, Hester ‘Pat’ Carpenter; sister in law, Catherine Solinsky; her best friend Joy Scott and many nieces and nephews.

Kirk W. Rowe, Jr., 52 of Toms River , passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010

Kirk was a mobile home installation and repair mechanic working for Kiwi Management of Manchester for 20 years. Born in Newport , Rhode Island he moved to Toms River in 1965. Kirk loved to fish and was a member of the Seaside Heights fishing club. 

Kirk is survived by his father, Kirk W. Rowe, Sr. and stepmother Sharon Rowe of Irvington, VA; his mother, Margaret Guyatt and stepfather Kenneth Guyatt of Clearwater, FL; his longtime companion, Linda Antonelli of Toms River; a brother, Jeffrey Rowe of Wesley Chapel, FL; and a sister, Catherine Leslie Rowe of Clearwater, FL

Archibald A. Lamb, 87 of Holiday City , Berkeley Twp. died Friday, February 5 at his home. 

He worked as a Sr. Wireman for Western Electric in Kearny , where he met his wife Margaret, then worked at Bell Laboratories in Whippany for many years. He proudly served in the US Army during World War II in Normandy , Central Europe and Northern France . He was a communicant of St. Maximilian-Kolbe Catholic Church. Born in Newark , he lived in Denville, moving to Berkeley in 1993. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Margaret Shanley Lamb.

Marie Kearney O’Neill, 83, of Brick, NJ and Alexandria , VA died on February 4, 2010 .

She was born in Rahway , NJ , to Edward and Ethel Burns Kearney, graduated from St. Mary’s School, Rahway , St. Peter’s High School, New Brunswick , NJ and Providence Hospital School of Nursing, Washington, DC. She also studied at Catholic University and received her BS and Masters in Nursing from the College of New Jersey . Marie was a school nurse in the Brick schools from 1958 until her retirement in 1988. She was the Coordinator of Nurses for the Brick Schools. Many, many children benefited from her compassionate care as a school nurse. She also taught courses for school nurses at Jersey City State College and the College of New Jersey and supervised student nurses. During the summers she was an Emergency Room nurse at Point Pleasant Hospital . Marie enjoyed skiing and golf with her friends and nephews. She was a wiz at the NY Times crossword puzzles and an avid Yankee baseball fan.  She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa, Brick Retired Teachers and a volunteer for Caregivers of Point Pleasant and several Alexandria charities.

Predeceased by her parents, her brothers, Reverend Edward Kearney and NJ Superior Court Judge William Kearney and her nephew, Edward J. Kearney, she is survived by her husband, William E. O’Neill and his sons and their families, William, Glenda, Theresa, Farrell and Suzanne of Virginia and Steve, Sally and Hugh of Montana . Also surviving is her sister-in-law, Rita Kearney of Toms River, NJ and her nephews and their families: John and Bernadette, Haddonfield , NJ ; Kevin, Adair, Caroline, Nora, Liam and Maeve, Buffalo , NY ; Timothy, Claudia, Lucia and Sebastian, Swarthmore , PA ; Michael, Kimberly, Eamonn and Caleb, Toms River .

John Douglas ‘Doug’ Ficken, 59 of Ortley Beach section of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at his home. 

Born in Wyckoff , NJ , Doug grew up in Oakland and lived in Jefferson Township before moving to the beach 5 years ago. Doug was a self employed construction contractor and worked in the North Jersey and shore areas for many years. He was a loyal and fiercely devoted Army Football Fan, Butler Bulldog Fan and an avid golfer. He was lovingly known as ‘Gramps’ by his family and adored his grandchildren, spending most of his time with them.

Richard was an accountant with Krosney, Berg, Talansky & Turtel of Asbury Park for 10 years. He loved his job and taking vacations. Born and raised in Philadelphia , PA , he lived in Haddon Township before moving to Bayville 20 years ago.

Elysia R. Wortman, 22 of Seaside Heights , passed away Saturday, January 16.

Elysia was an accomplished artist and a great cook. She had a compassionate spirit and always put others before herself. Born in St. Petersburg , FL , she lived most of her life in the Ocean County area.

She is survived by her mother, Kathleen Jones; two sisters, her twin, Chelsea of Seaside Heights, and Kiannah Wortman of Brick; a brother, AJ Wortman of Bound Brook; Fiancé, Pedro Angel Pardo of Brooklyn; step-sisters, Devinee Wood of Toms River and Danelle Wood of Tuckerton. Also surviving are her maternal and paternal grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Elysia’s loved ones find solace in the fact that she is resting peacefully in God’s hands with her cousin Mark Alan.

Ethel Adele Carstens, 85 of Toms River , passed away Sunday, January 10, 2010 of natural causes. 

Ethel was born in New York and spent most of her life residing in West New York , NJ , before moving to Toms River . Ethel was a member of the PTA, a Den Mother for Pack 100 and proudly worked for many years as a crossing guard, all in West New York . Ethel was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. 

She was predeceased by her husband, Staff Sgt. John H. Carstens, U.S. Army Air Force. Ethel is survived by her son, John E. Carstens; daughter, Marion Seidelmann; and four grandsons, Christopher and Peter Seidelmann, and Daniel and Erich Carstens.

Raymond A. Liput, Sr., 76 of Toms River , passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010 at home surrounded by his loving family. 

Raymond was a member of Teamsters Local 560 and worked as a truck driver for Navajo Freight Lines of East Rutherford and ABF Freight Lines of Newark for 35 years, retiring 18 years ago. Prior he had worked at the Sherman Williams Paint Plant in Newark during the 1960’s. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Hillside . Born in Newark , he lived there most of his life moving to Brick in 1983 then to Toms River in 2003. He was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Anna Liput, his wife Helen Liput in 2002, and a grandson, Bryan Gantner in 2007.

He is survived by his sons, Gregory S. Liput of Bremerton , WA , Raymond A. Liput, Jr., of Toms River; his daughter, Veronica A. Gantner of Toms River; 6 grandchildren, Helen Ann of Virginia Beach, VA; Alexandra, Kelley and Chrissy of Beachwood; Patricia and Danielle of Toms River; 6 Great-grandchildren, Larry, Joshua, Breann, Isabella, Angelina and Desiree; and his brother, Richard S. Liput, Sr. of Hillside, NJ; Step-son, Kenneth Hufford of Bayville, NJ. Dad, you are greatly missed and loved by all.

Julia Masciangelo, 90, of Toms River , passed away on Saturday January 2, 2010 , at home, with her son Bill and family friend Gabe Pastore at her side. 

Born in Minersville , PA she lived most of her adult life in Pine Beach , NJ . She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1986.  Julia is survived by her son Bill, a retired Marine officer, and currently a full-time pastor at New Hope United Methodist Church in Hertford , NC and his wife Susan; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her brother Ralph Phillips of Del Ray Beach, FL is the only surviving sibling.

She worked passionately as the administrative assistant for the County Engineer in the Ocean County Engineering Department for over 30 years.  Most of her free time, was supporting her husband at Admiral Farragut Academy (AFA) and some of her fondest memories are of the parades, concerts, dances and sporting events held at the academy each year. She truly loved all aspects of her life and embraced life with gusto. Those who knew her would agree.

Julia was a member of St. Joseph ’s Church of Toms River, the local organ club and was an avid bridge player as well. She relished her lifelong friends from the local area and the alumni from AFA. She had great stories to tell about Pine Beach , Toms River and the early days living there. We are so glad we got to hear them all.

A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24th, at New Hope United Methodist Church 2098 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC. 27944.

Fannie Mayer Caruso, 96 of Brick Township , passed away Friday, January 1, 2010 .

She was a manager for the Hahne’s Department store in Montclair for many years. Born in Reading , PA , she lived in Michigan and Ohio prior to moving to New Jersey . She resided for many years in Upper Montclair before settling in Brick. 

Fannie was predeceased by her first husband, Ervin M. Mayer and her second husband, Guido  Jack Caruso.

her daughter Meredith Lewis and her husband Richard of Far Hills, NJ;

Ronald P. Murat, Jr., 47, of Manchester , died suddenly on January 2, 2010

Loving father, husband and son, Ron was an enthusiastic coach of softball and soccer. He enjoyed boating, fishing and golf and had a great passion for cooking. Ronnie attended Toms River High School North and was an alumnus of Ocean County Community College .

He leaves behind two teenage daughters, Kristin and Meghan and his wife Jill.
He is also survived by his mother MaryAnn deGorgue of Whiting; his father the Honorable Ronald P. Murat, Sr., of Citrus Springs , FL ; and his sister Robin of Toms River.

She spent her life caring for her family and was always willing to help a friend. Born and raised in New York City , she lived in Union City for several years before moving to Toms River 12 years ago. She was predeceased by her brother John Reid and sister Agnes Palasciano.

Joseph ‘Joe’ J. Buoncristiano has joined his beloved son, Vincenzo, in the arms of the Lord on December 29, 2009

He was born February 7, 1929 in the Comune di Nocera Superiore, province of Salerno , Italy . Originally a native of Newark , for the last 45 plus years he has resided in the Toms River area. At the age of 16, he enlisted in the US Army and was stationed in Japan . He was honorably discharged in October 1947. Joe was a “Jack of all trades, and a Master of all.” He retired from Ft. Dix , Department of the Army with 30 years of civil service.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Vincenzo and Maria; his sisters: Angelina and Anna; and his first born son, Vincenzo. He is survived by his loving wife, Eleanore; son, Michael and his wife, Gladys; daughter, Gloria and her husband Chris; his grandchildren: Jeanne, Kimberly, Angela, Cara, Gina, Gabrielle, Alex, K’Ehleyr and Rose; his great-grandchildren: Martin, Joseph, Kennedy, Christopher and Anna; his brother Tony and sister Marie. Our beloved husband, brother, father (pops) and pop-pop will be lovingly missed.

Christine Parsons, 87 of Wall, NJ, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, Dec. 28 following a brief illness.  

Born in Buffalo , NY , she resided in western New York for nearly 50 years before moving to New Hampshire .  She relocated to New Jersey to be with family in August of 2006.  Her church affiliations over the years included, Assembly Hall and Berkshire Ave. Chapel in Buffalo , Andover Bible Chapel in Massachusetts and Fifth Ave. Chapel in Belmar NJ . She was married to David C. Parsons who preceded her in death on July 10, 2000 . They were married for 51 years.

Digna R. Lamela Reyes passed away on December 24, 2009 .

Digna was born in La Romana, Dominican Republic on November 7, 1935 to Alejandro and Herminda Rodriguez Reyes. She attended El Palacio Nacional for her acting and modeling studies in Santo Domingo , where she went on to model and act in telenovellas. Digna moved to New York City in 1960, where she met and married Dr. Alberto Lamela. She designed and created her own beautiful and meticulously embroidered evening gowns, which were worn to social events at the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan . Later in life, she enjoyed traveling to Mexico and Europe as well as spending time with her granddaughters. 

She was predeceased by her son Fernando Lamela, who passed away as an infant. She is greatly missed by her loving children, Regina M. Lamela Briggs, Toms River and Eric A. Lamela, Texas , as well as her grandchildren, Gigi and Ali Briggs and Carlos Lamela.  She also has an older sister who lives in Salzburg , Austria and a younger sister and two brothers who reside in New York City along with several nieces and nephews. Those who knew her fondly remember her for her gentle kindness as well as her grace and elegance; she was the true epitome of a lady. “Each that we lose takes part of us/ A crescent still abides/ Which like the moon, some turbid night/ Is summoned by the tides.”

Anthony J. Anello, Sr., 83 of Toms River passed away at home on Saturday, December 19. 

Anthony worked for the A&P Tea Co. as a meat manager at several stores in the New Jersey area for 35 years before retiring in 1992. He then worked as a butcher for Mid-Shore Meats of Toms River from 1992 to 2005. Anthony was a proud Navy veteran having served during World War II. Born in Glen Ridge , he grew up in Montclair and lived in Wall Township before moving to Toms River 10 years ago. His wife of 49 years, Phyllis Cavallo Anello, predeceased him in 2003.

He is survived by his son Anthony Anello, Jr., and his wife Sandra; his grandson, Anthony Anello, III all of Toms River , and several nieces, nephews, other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be held Tuesday from 8 a.m. 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian will be celebrated 10:30 am at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Old Freehold Road , Toms River , Interment will be at St. Anne’s Cemetery, Wall Township

Ruth C. Schrumpf, a lifelong resident of New Jersey , died December 10, 2009 after a long illness. 

Born to John and Sarah Cunningham in Irvington , on May 9, 1921 , Mrs. Schrumpf moved from Northern New Jersey to Sea Girt in 1953 with her husband, John L. ‘Jack’ Schrumpf, the former noted three sport All State Athlete and nationally renowned sports official. Mr. & Mrs. Schrumpf moved to Colts Neck in 1961, but later relocated to the Monmouth Shore area.

Mrs. Schrumpf was a housewife and was a well known Republican Party activist and supporter. She was involved with the campaigns of numerous Republican Party State nominees and elected officials, as well as Presidential campaigns from Dwight Eisenhower to George W. Bush. She was an advisor to several Monmouth County government officials, receiving countless commendations, letters of thanks and personalized mementos.

Mrs. Schrumpf was predeceased by her husband Jack, who died in 1998, and her daughter Nancy Schrumpf, a local realtor, who died in 2008.
Surviving are her two sons, John Schrumpf Lawrence and David Wayne Schrumpf; her niece Judith Good, and five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Francisca G. Felicia, 98 of Toms River , passed away on Saturday, December 12, 2009 at Community Medical Center ,  Toms River

She was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to New Jersey in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband Raymundo in 1979. Francisca raised 7 devoted children, 12 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

Linda Clark-Homer, 55 lost her fight against cancer on December 3, 2009 at Monmouth Medical Center

Although she was born in Toms River at Dr. James Risso’s historic Maternity Hospital , she lived in Trenton during her elementary school days. From 1966 on she attended Toms River Schools and remained a loyal graduate of Toms River High School South. She graduated from Georgian Court College with a business degree. Being naturally artistic, she found her first career as a jewelry store manager. She may be remembered from Zales in the Ocean County Mall or Marcus Jewelers in Paramus . After a serious automobile accident on the NJ Turnpike, she changed careers to health care and was last employed at the Cranford Health and Extended Care Center as Director of Admissions.  Her friends and family know her as a gourmet cook and collector of cookbooks.

Linda was predeceased by her grandparents, Charles and Anna Knox and her father, James E. Clark.

 She is survived by her mother, Beulah Clark
Her beloved son, Tristan Lee Homer and his grandmother, Violet Homer.

Erin Carstens, 26 of Toms River , died Wednesday, December 3rd as the result of an automobile accident. Erin was a lifelong resident of New Jersey . She was passionate about animals and spent many years working as a veterinary technician, rescuing more animals than she knew what to do with. Erin ’s sense of humor and carefree spirit brightened the lives of everyone she came in contact with. Erin was also a devoted parent and friend to her niece Amber.

Modesto T. Maulion, Jr. MD, 54, passed away Thursday, December 03, 2009

Dr. Maulion was a pediatrician and worked for Pediatrics Affiliates of Toms River before beginning his own practice in Lakewood 16 years ago. He was a communicant of St. Luke’s Catholic Church of Toms River and was a member of the BLD Prayer Group in Trenton . He was born in the Philippines and lived on Long Island , New York before moving to Toms River in 1993.

Bernard ‘Bernie’ J. Gatyas, 68 of Jackson , passed away on Tuesday, December 1, 2009

Bernie was employed by Exxon Corporation as a truck driver for 35 years and was a member of the 1 million mile safe driving club. He loved antique cars and was a member of the Antique Auto Club of Hershey, PA. He was a true handyman and could always be found working on a project in his new garage. 

Bernie was a devoted husband and father who loved spending time with his grandsons. Born in Perth Amboy , he grew up in Fords.  He lived in Monroe before moving to Jackson in 2002. He was predeceased by his father James John Gatyas, his mother, Margaret Palinowski Gatyas and brother Tommy Gatyas

Charles ‘Manny’ Hart, 33 of Toms River passed away suddenly on Friday, November 27. He was an avid Yankee and Eagles fan. You could always find him watching a game or Sports Center on TV. Born in Bronx , New York he lived most of his life in Manchester and Toms River .

Zachary Anthony Mobus, 19, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, November 24 at the home of his mother and stepfather in Galena , Maryland . He was born in Dothan , Alabama on March 1, 1990 , but was a long time resident of Toms River .

Zachary will always be remembered for his big heart, his amazing personality, his awesome smile and for the caring and kindness he showed to others. He left an unforgettable impression on the lives of all those he touched.

He had an unending love for his family and friends and he will be missed by all. He enjoyed spending time with his family and his numerous friends and he loved making others laugh.  He also loved football, watching the jets play and watching wrestling.

He is survived by his father Alan Mobus of Seaside Heights , his mother and stepfather Georgette and Bruce Ellis of Galena , Maryland , his sister Megan Mobus of Toms River , his sister Jennifer Atkinson of Shamong and his brother Matthew Ellis of Galena , Maryland . Loren (Larry) H. Publicover, 81, of Toms River passed away in the presence of his family, Saturday, Nov. 21 at Ocean Medical Center , Brick. 

Born in Staten Island , NY , Loren & his wife moved to Toms River 13 years ago. Loren was a Master Electrician and retired in the late 80’s from the Health and Hospitals Corp., in Queens , NY . Loren was a veteran submariner in the United States Navy and proudly served his country in the Korean War. He is a Life Member of the United States Submarine Veterans, Jersey Shore Base. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and pop-pop. One of his favorite days was the birth of his granddaughter whom he loved to spoil. Loren will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kind heart and his desire to always help others. There are no words to express what a wonderful man he was. “A life that touches others goes on forever.”

Loren is survived by his wife of 49 ½ years, Jacqueline; daughter, Laureen Coup and her husband David of Bayville, and granddaughter Emily Rose Coup.

Timothy P. Sack, 60 of Toms River , passed away Thursday, November 19, 2009

He was a career-long member of the Operating Engineers Union, Local 825. Born and raised in Jersey City , he lived in Brick before moving to Toms River 10 years ago.

He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Kitson and her husband Jeremy of Palm Coast, FL, and grandson Jacob Kitson. Two brothers: Joseph W. Sack of Briarcliff Manor , NY , and Peter J. Sack of Belleville , NJ .

Alice Miller, 78 of Toms River , passed away Thursday, November 12.

Alice worked as an inventory clerk for Higbee’s Department store in Cleveland Ohio for many years. She was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Asbury Park. Born and raised in Passaic , she lived in Cleveland , Ohio from 1952 until moving to Asbury Park in 1998. She moved to Toms River this past March.

Alice is survived by her sister, Virginia Mobley of Toms River and many dear friends from her Oak Avenue residence and Asbury Park .

Marie Cordasco, 88 of Toms River , passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at the Van Dyke Hospice and Palliative Care Center , Toms River

Marie was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. She was affectionately known as ‘grams’ to all who knew her. Born in Orange , NJ , she lived there until moving to Toms River in 1974. She was predeceased by her husband Peter in 1993 and her son Vito in 1982.

Philip Contino of Ortley Beach passes away on November 4, 2009 .

VINCENT E. CROASDALE, “Gene”, age 83 of Toms River , passed away at Kimball Medical Center , Lakewood on Wednesday November 4, 2009 .  

Gene resided in Middletown , NJ for 38 years, before moving to Toms River .  He was an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus. He was employed by and had retired from NJ Bell Telephone.

William ‘Coop’ Cooper, 80, of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, November 03, 2009 at Beth Israel Medical Center , Newark

William worked in the advertising-circulation dept. of the Asbury Park Press. He then worked for C.B.A. of California as district manager of the advertising-circulation dept., retiring in 1987 after 15 years. He was an Army veteran of the Koran War. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian-Kolbe Catholic Church and belonged to the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph Council #4969. He was a 4th Degree Knight and member of the John D. Mc Mahon Assembly #1926. William served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was a member of the Vintage Auto Club of NJ and was a member of the Silver Ridge East Bowling Club. Born and raised in Perth Amboy he lived in Toms River and San Bernardino , CA , returning to Toms River in 1984.  He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Jennie Cooper and his brother Edward.

Edward worked for Aristocrat as a window cleaner for over 10 years in Newark . He was a devoted Elvis fan, always watching an Elvis movie or listening to his music. He was also very artistic and loved to paint with water colors, sketch and draw. Born in Newark , he lived most of his life in Irvington on Stuyvesant Ave.

Frank Iraci, 64, of Toms River , passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2009 . Frank was a self employed welder and sandblaster. 

He was a motorcycle builder / fabricator and loved to ride his trike with his wife and grandson Miles. He enjoyed inventing and building his creations and received a 21 year patent for the Ark-tic snow plow pump control he designed. Frank also worked as a commercial fisherman out of Sandy Hook for several years. He volunteered as a coach for Toms River Little League and the TRBA teams. Frank was well known for his dedication to the Salvation Army Hearty Helpings program. He was born in Laredo , Texas and lived his childhood in Lakewood before  moving to Toms River in1964.

Richard  “Rick” Beevers, 53 of Toms River , passed away on Sunday, October 18, at his home. 

Richard worked as a case manager with the Ocean County Board of Social Services for 11 years. He graduated from Toms River High School South and attended Ocean County College and Monmouth University receiving his Bachelors Degree in 1983. He was a member of the Shore Vineyard Church of Beachwood and was active in several of the church ministries. Rick helped weekly in the church office, coordinated the food pantry but was most known for his prayer ministry. He was born in Newark and lived most of his life in Toms River .

Mrs. Van Billiard worked for the City of Newark as a clerk in the Credit Department for 20 years before retiring. She was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church, Toms River . David C. Peters, age 81 of the New Gretna section of Tuckerton, died peacefully Sunday, October 11 at his home. 

Mr. Peters was a machinist and worked for Proctor & Gamble in Staten Island for over 25 years. He had been active with the Staten Island Little League as a coach for many years. He served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Born in Staten Island , he was a life long resident there until moving to Tuckerton 2 years ago. 

He was predeceased by his wife Grace Decker in 1997, a sister Janet Richards in 2003 and a grandson, Patrick Daniel Peters in 1991.

Frank was a fireman for the Elizabeth Fire Department for 29 years, retiring in 1982. Born in Philadelphia , he lived most of his life in Elizabeth , moving to Berkeley Twp. in 2000. He was predeceased by his wife Claire in 1984.

Armond worked for the City of Philadelphia as a truck driver for over 35 years and then worked for the Steelmanville School. He was a communicant of St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church of Toms River. He served in the US Army during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He enjoyed spending his time doing home woodworking projects. Born and raised in Philadelphia , he lived in McKee City, NJ for 25 years before moving to Toms River .

Helen M. Hickman, (nee Kjelle) of Manchester Township , formerly of Carlstadt, passed away Monday at Community Medical Center

Helen worked as a bookkeeper for Hackensack Medical Center , retiring in 1992. 

She was predeceased by her loving husband Ray Hickman in 1965 and her beloved son Jack Hickman in 2002.

Edward Louis Bescript, 85 of Lakewood , passed away Thursday, September 24, 2009

Mr. Bescript worked at the Naval Air Engineering Station, Lakehurst as Supervisor of traffic and supply for 34 years, retiring in 1980. He attended St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church. Edward served in the US Navy as a machinist’s mate during World War II. Born and raised in Philadelphia , he lived in Toms River since 1951, moving to Lakewood seven years ago

Robert John May, 54 of Seaside Heights , formerly of Bayonne , passed away Monday, September 14 at his home. Robert worked as a fork lift operator for the Clorox and Tropicana Companies in Jersey City for 20 years. He was a 1973 graduate of Snyder High School in Jersey City . Born in Jersey City , he lived in Bayonne before moving to Seaside Heights four years ago.

Carol J. “Nanny” Denzler, 69 of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, September 8th, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Tucson , Arizona

She worked as a sales clerk for 7-11 in Brick for many years before retiring in 2007. She was born in Jersey City but was a resident of Brick for over 30 years. She was predeceased by her husband Edward in 1980. Carol was an incredible person who made an immediate impression. She devoted her life to her children and grandchildren. Her laughter, love and sincere generosity will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Joseph "Guy" Pijak, 62, of Toms River passed away peacefully on the morning of Sept. 4, 2009 at his home after a struggle with cancer.   

Born in Plainfield, NJ, Guy was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore. He graduated Toms River High School in 1964 and Rider College in 1968. Guy was building contractor in the Toms River area and an avid outdoorsman. He could never be found far away from his fishing pole on the Jersey Shore Guy was predeceased by his father, Walter, and survived by his mother, Irene, his five sisters, one brother, his companion Fran, and his three loving children Jeremy, Justin and Jessica.  

A memorial service will be held on October 3, 2009 at 0930 at the LDS Church 1348 Old Freehold Rd. in Toms River

Anthony “Bud” Stanley Bulsiewicz, 83 died on August 23, 2009 of complications of pancreatic cancer.

Anthony was born in Newark , NJ on March 27, 1926 . In 1943 he answered his country’s call and enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17 putting the completion of his high school education on hold until many years later. He served as a mechanic chief on B-24 and B-29 Bombers. Anthony’s lifetime occupation was a printer.  Until retirement he was the owner of Print-Rite located in Irvington NJ , a family owned printing and publishing business. Anthony was the third generation to manage the business.

Anthony was an accomplished artist and worked in water-colors and clay. Throughout his life he was an active member of his community serving in both church and civil volunteer positions.  Anthony was a faithful parishioner of the Church of the Visitation and served as a CCD teacher and Usher.  Anthony was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus in Irvington NJ . Anthony served as a volunteer to the NJ Division of Fish, Game and Wildlife. He enjoyed taking part in off-shore fish surveys, deer check surveys, and as a tour guide at the Cranberry Bog Education Center .  Anthony was also a member of the Pt Pleasant Coast Guard Auxiliary. In addition he served as a helper for the County of Ocean Board of Elections for 15 years. Anthony was a member of American legion Post 0348 in Brick, New Jersey .

Anthony was a faithful friend of Bill W. and worked for over 28 years offering help to others when they needed it most. No one could tell a story better than Anthony.  He enjoyed most of his trips to sea during the fish surveys and would talk for hours about his adventures.  His family, especially his grandchildren, always enjoyed listening.

Anthony is survived by his wife of 63 years Eunice (Gorski), his brother Fabian, his Sister Doris Gladowicz, his children, Allan (Lillian), Diane (Daniel) Speciale, Wayne “Ray” (Judy) , and Richard (Lucy),  as well as 7 grandchildren, Christina (Speciale) Petrauskas, Wayne, Jacob, Daniel Speciale, Philip, Alexander, Julianna and 3 great-grandchildren, Jeffrey Petrauskas, Danny Speciale and Anthony Speciale.

Eleanor A. Winn, 73 of Toms River , passed away Monday, August 24, 2009 at Van Dyke Hospice Center of Community Medical Center.  

She was born in Bronx , New York and worked in Manhattan prior to becoming a devout and loving, wife, mother and grandmother.  

Eleanor is survived by her husband of 48 years, James L. Winn, Jr. and six children, Tara and her husband Gregg of Wall, Colleen Winn of Toms River, James and his wife Dawn Winn of Manahawkin, Kevin Winn of Toms River, Brian and his wife Karen Winn of Toms River, and Kathleen and her husband Brian Poll of Toms River.  Six grandchildren, Christopher, Matthew, Keeley, James, Gladys, Riley. A sister-in-law, Barbara Finn, seven nieces and nephews and four grand nieces and nephews.

Dennis Wall Nordstrom, age 62 of Toms River died Tuesday, August 11 at his home. 

He worked at the Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst for many years. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Margaret Catherine Wall Nordstrom and Vincent I. Nordstrom, his brothers Vincent, David and his sister Margaret Ellen Nordstrom Dunleavy.  Dennis is survived by his brother Michael S. Nordstrom of St. Petersburg , FL., and numerous nieces and nephews in the NJ area.

Janet Emmett, 79, of Boynton Beach , Florida , born in Newark , New Jersey , passed away on August 20, 2009 .

She was God's faithful servant who had been currently serving the Lord at Boca Raton Bible Chapel since 2003.  Janet had dedicated her life to the Lord and others, making more than 150 dresses a year for the refugees in Africa .  Prior to moving to Florida , Janet lived in Beachwood , New Jersey and was in fellowship at Bethany Bible Chapel of Toms River.

Janet was predeceased by her parents, William Wilson in 1968 and Elizabeth Wilson in 1984 as well as her first husband, Adam Miller in 1968.

Alfred Latour, Jr., 60 of Toms River , passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 18 at Jersey Shore Medical Center , Neptune

Alfred worked for H&R Block of Toms River as a Tax Accountant for the past 20 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church of Toms River. He coached basketball for the Brick Leagues and for St. Dominick’s Leagues. He was also a basketball referee through out Ocean County . Born and raised in Jersey City , he lived in Brick before moving to Toms River in 2006. 

He was predeceased by his beloved wife Eileen Gallagher Latour in September, 2007 and by his brother John Latour.

Wallace worked as a draftsman for Innolog Technology of Wall Twp. He was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s Catholic Church. Born in Paterson , he lived in Clifton before moving to Toms River 39 years ago.

Joyce Adams Oehmler, 80 of Toms River passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the VanDyke Hospice Center on Sunday, August 09, 2009

She was born in Brooklyn on August 14, 1928 and raised in Tenafly , NJ . She met Edward, her husband of 58 years at Bethany College, West Virginia, where she was a member of the Alpha XI Delta Sorority. She graduated from Kathryn Gibbs and worked 2 years for the Association of American Colleges in New York City . Joyce worked in the Pentagon for the Department of the Army while her Navy husband was stationed there. She also worked in the trust department for the Berkeley Federal Savings and Loan in Manchester for 13 years. She lived in Pittsburgh for 20 years before returning to New Jersey where she lived in Brielle for 2 years and in Toms River for 24 years before retiring to Greenbriar Woodlands 8 years ago. She was an accomplished artist and belonged to the Painting Group in Greenbriar as well as the Book Discussion Group, Camera Club, Duplicate Bridge Group and participated in Bocce and Shuffleboard. She was a devoted mother to her children, always being there for them. Joyce was recognized by her friends, as being a genuine warm hearted and loving person. She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia.

JOHN W. HENN, SR, age 73 of Toms River , passed away peacefully at his home on Friday July 17, 2009 , surrounded by his family.  

John was a true fighter and had courageously battled cancer. John was born in Nussloch , Germany and came to the United States in 1954.  He was proud to have served in the United States Army as a parachuter during the Vietnam War.  Mr. Henn was still currently working for Ciba-Geigy of Toms River , as a pipe fitter and welder, he had over 50 years of dedicated service.  He was a communicant of St. Joseph ’s RC Church, of Toms River , and was a referee for more than 15 years for Shore Soccer Association.

Mr. Henn was predeceased by his beloved wife of 31 years Theresa (nee Rizzuto) in 1993.  He is survived by his devoted children twin daughter’s and their husbands Theresa and Fernando Dos Santos, of Chester, NY, Michele and Nick Giordano of Beachwood, NJ and John, Jr. of Monsey, NY.  He is also survived by his sister and “best friend” Elizabeth Stieglitz, of Beachwood, his treasured grandchildren Vincent Ciarla, and twins Theresa and Antonio Dos Santos.  He also leaves his companion Sandy Dueban of Barnegat.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday July 22, 2009 at 11:00 am from St. Joseph ’s RC Church, 685 Hooper Ave. Toms River, interment shall follow at St. Joseph ’s Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 pm from the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, NJ.

Louise Williams Hoffman, age 86, of Lakewood , passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at Harrogate Health Care.  

Louise served as President of the Sea Girt Board of Education.  She was very active at the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan where she taught Sunday shool and served as President of United Presbyterian Woman. She was born in Champagne , Illinois , on January 3, 1923 . Louise and her husband Charles lived in Fanwood and moved to Sea Girt in 1950. They retired to Harrogate in 1992.

Charles J. Clauer, 101, the most ancient of Ancient Mariners, passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009 surrounded by his loving family.

Charlie, born in North Wales , PA lived in Roselle Park before moving to Toms River, NJ in 1965.  He was a long time employee of Exxon wearing many different hats before retiring in 1970 after 49 years of service.  As a founding member of the Watchung Power Squadron, Charlie enjoyed an active participation with this group since 1946.  He was also a lifetime member of the Roselle Park Volunteer Fire Dept. with 30 years of service with the Lorraine Hose Company.

Charlie’s beloved wife, Ruth (nee Schweers) died in 1976.  He is survived by his daughter, Carole J. Simon of Lindenwold , NJ ; grandson, James (J.R.) Simon and his family in Apollo Beach , Fl and Medford , NJ ; granddaughter, Laura Phillips (nee Simon) and her husband, Bob, in Wadsworth , OH .  His legacy will continue through his six great grandchildren.

Julie worked as a bookkeeper for George Wright Asphalt and Northeast Utilities both of Brick Township . She enjoyed spending her time with her granddaughter Harley. Julie was born in Poland and lived in Elizabeth , moving to Toms River in 1972.

Joel Thomas Parker, age 43 of Long Branch , passed away Tuesday, June 23 at Monmouth Medical Center surrounded by his loving family after battling with various health issues for the past two years. 

Joel was general manager for AAFKO Inc., of Colts Neck. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Shrewsbury . He graduated from Valley Forge Christian College , Phoenixville , PA with his Bachelor of Science in Bible Degree and was a few credits away from earning his MBA at Liberty University , Lynchburg , VA. He served as youth pastor of Long Branch Covenant Church , Long Branch NJ for 5 years. Impacting many lives throughout his ministerial career he was involved with many other youth ministries, fulfilling his life's passion of showing God's love in practical ways. Born and raised in Red Bank, he moved to Long Branch 7 years ago. 

Mr. Parker was predeceased by his father, John Lawrence Parker of Red Bank, NJ. He was a devoted and loving father and is survived by his son, Joel Ryan Parker of Long Branch; daughter Alyssa Parker of Colts Neck; his mother, Rita Parker of Red bank; brothers Larry  of Liverpool, NY; Michael of Williamsburg, VA; John of Eatontown, NJ; and sister Elizabeth Borkland of Rome, NY, along with his loving nieces and nephews.

Alexandria Pello, 91 of Vero Beach , FL , formerly of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, June 30 at her home. 

Mrs. Pello was born and raised in Jersey City , and lived in Toms River where she was a communicant of St. Justin’s Catholic Church before moving to Florida in 2002. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband John W. Pello in 2005, her son John R. Pello in 2007 and two brothers John and Stanley Penkalski.

Clifford A. Munson, 58 of Toms River , passed away Wednesday, July 1 at Community Medical Center , Toms River

Clifford had previously been the owner and operator of Gordon’s Restaurant in Forked River (now Caffrey’s Steakhouse). Most recently, Clifford worked as a Food Service Director for several nursing homes in the Monmouth County area and had also recently worked for the Oakwood School in Tinton Falls . He is a graduate of Toms River High School South. Born in New York he lived in the Bronx, moving to Toms River in 1963. He was predeceased by his parents Walter and Ann Munson.

Connor Mastres-Digiammo, infant son of Megan Mastres and Evan Digiammo went home to heaven on Friday, July 3.

Kathryn M. Kornett, 91, of Freehold, formerly of Ortley Beach , passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2009

Kathryn and her beloved husband Stephen recently celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on April 29. She worked as a retail manager in the children’s clothing business for 30 years. Born in Bayonne , she lived there most of her life and was a communicant of St. Andrews Church where she was a member of the Rosary Society. After retiring, she moved to the Ortley Beach section of Toms River and wintered in Jensen Beach , FL. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Seaside Heights . She moved to the Monmouth Crossing Assisted Living in Freehold 6 years ago.

She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Stephen

Ernest Grant Camburn, 93 of Bayville, formerly of Toms River , passed away on Thursday, June 5, 2009 at the Tallwoods Care Center

Born in Waretown , NJ , Ernie made his living on the Barnegat Bay in many capacities ranging from fishing to boat Captain. He worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 1930’s and then moved to Toms River when he married Ella Doris Horner in 1940.  He was an aviation metal smith at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station for the U.S. Navy Lighter-than-Air Blimp program. Ernie transferred to the Lakehurst Naval Air Station Fire Department, and then went on to work for the Toms River School System as a custodian before retiring. Ernie was a life member and ex-chief of the Toms River Fire Company No. 2. He was an exempt Fireman in the New Jersey State Fireman’s Relief Association and an instructor with the Ocean County Fire Academy . He was a past member of the Ocean County String Band and a member of the Island Heights First United Methodist Church , He and his wife Ella spent many years of their retirement in the A-Frame he and his boys built in Rochester , Vermont . He loved fishing and spending time with “all Pop’s kids”.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Ella D. Camburn in 2001, a son Ernest “Jerry” Camburn in 2005 and great-granddaughters Megan and Allison Camburn in 2001.

David D. Capezzuto, 73 of Manchester Twp., passed away Monday, June 01, at Kimball Medical Center , Lakewood , surrounded by his loving family. 

David was a driver for Roadway Freight Services for many years, and had served in the United States Navy. He was a communicant of St. Johns Catholic Church of Lakehurst .  He was born and raised in West New York , NJ and lived in Palisades Park before moving to Manchester 25 years ago.

Dorothy was a former parishioner of Queen of Peace Catholic Church of North Arlington where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society, and was a member of the North Arlington Senior Harmony Club.

Born and raised in Ballston Spa , NY , she lived in North Arlington for 40 years before moving to Bayville1995. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George in 1971.

Robert G. Ramsey, 80, of Toms River, passed away April 27 at his home leaving a son, Gary, daughter-in-law, Diane and beloved grandson, Sean, all of Port Monmouth. 

Mr. Ramsey served his country as a Navy Veteran of World War II and as a Federal Government/Contract employee, retiring in 1988.  Robert was a Freemason, a member of AMVETS, Navy Lakehurst Rod & Gun Club and the NRA. Robert was an avid gardener and nature lover who enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandson.  He was born in Newark and lived in Highlands before moving to Toms River 31 years ago. Ruth Glass, 75 of Brick, passed away Saturday, April 18, at the Laurelton Village Care Center, Brick. 

Mrs. Glass worked as a bookkeeper and office manager for Ocean Convalescent Center in Lakewood for 20 years before retiring in 2002. Born in Brooklyn, New York she grew up in Paterson before moving to Brick Township.

Patricia A. Court , 65, of Medford , formerly of Toms River , passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.

Patricia worked for many years in the building industry, retiring from Accent Homes of Manahawkin , NJ in 2005. She was an avid gardener and nature lover. She enjoyed kayaking, hiking and was a member of The Outdoor Club of South Jersey. She volunteered with an environmental group, Restoring National Parks. Born and raised in Toms River , she lived in Lower Bank on the Mullica River before moving to Medford , NJ .

She was predeceased by her father Norman N. Gregory in 1976 and Jonathan Ackerman in 2004.

Clifford W. Chapman, 74, of Lakewood, NJ died peacefully at his home on Thursday, April 9, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis.  

Cliff was born in Bethlehem, PA, the son of the late Clifford W. and the late Florence A. (Bastian) Chapman and the brother of the late Francis Chapman of Racine, WI.  He was a long-time resident of NJ having lived in Maywood, Jersey City, Montvale and Lakewood.

Following graduation from Dickinson High School in Jersey City he started working for Western Electric before enlisting in the Navy in 1953. He served on the USS Hazelwood (DD-531) as a Quartermaster Third Class during the Korean War.  After being honorably discharged, he returned to Western Electric (now AT&T) where he worked 35 years before retiring as a Manager of Tax Operations.  On November 8, 1958, he married Arline Marian Westhoff of Jersey City.  He was graduated from Seton Hall University in 1967 with a B.S. in Accounting after eight years of night school. 

Cliff was a loving father of two children and devoted husband for over 50 years.  He was a baseball and soccer coach for his children and a doting grandfather.  He was a member of the VFW Post 8946 of Woodcliff Lake, American Legion Post 348 of Brick, the Fishing Club of Leisure Village East, the AT&T Pioneers of America and the Royal Order of Hyjypts.

He is survived by his wife, Arline, a son, Clifford Jr., and his wife, Cynthia, a daughter, Julie, and her husband, George Psillos, and five grandchildren: Claudia, Charlotte, Clifford W. Chapman III, Alexi and Andreas Clifford Psillos.

Glenn F. Obremski, 59 of Bayville, died Saturday, April 4 at his home. Glenn worked as a machinist and school custodian. 

Born and raised in Paterson, he lived in Beachwood before moving to Bayville.

He is survived by a brother and sister in law: David and Barbara Obremski of Wayne, NJ, a sister, Nancy Tobin of Marstons Mills, MA, and several Cousins.

John “Jack” Herman, 77 of Toms River passed away Saturday, March 21 at home surrounded by his family. 

Jack worked as a manufacturing engineer for Martin Marietta Aerospace in Denver , CO , Frequency Engineering in Farmingdale , NJ , and most recently worked for General Electric in Valley Forge , PA and retired in 1997. He had served with the US Army in Korea . Born and raised in Delano , PA , he lived in Mercerville , NJ before moving to Toms River in 1977. He was predeceased by his son Shawn P. Herman in August of 2008.

Juliette Closter, 91 of Toms River, passed away Tuesday, March 17 at Bey Lea Village, Toms River. 

She was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church of Manchester. Born in Germany, Juliette lived in Watchung for 20 years, and Clearwater, Fl. for 20 years before moving to Toms River in 1999. Juliette was predeceased by her beloved husband of 61 years, Louis W. Closter in 2002 and a sister Mabel Luciano in 2008.

Joseph worked for Seaside Furniture as a warehouse manager before retiring after 30 years. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and a member of the American Legion, Seaside Heights Post 351. Born and raised in Trenton, he lived in Lavallette, moving to Toms River 56 years ago.

Born and raised in France , she met her husband Albino there during World War II and moved to the Bronx, New York . He predeceased her in 1968. She was a former member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in the Bronx . Emilia moved to Toms River 34 years ago.

Ruth J. Chimento, 71 of Waretown, died Tuesday at Deborah Heart and Lung Center , Browns Mills. 

Ruth worked as a nurses aide at Crystal Lake Nursing Home in Bayville for 20 years before retiring. Born and raised in Kingsville , PA , she lived in Union City and Toms River before moving to Waretown 3 years ago. 

She was predeceased by her husband Raymond V. Chimento in 1987.

Rose “Poby” Lawlor, 78 of Toms River , died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Shorrock Gardens Care Center in Brick where the staff and Holistic Hospice took outstanding and compassionate care or our mother. 

Mrs. Lawlor was born in Bronx , New York and lived in Whitestone , NY moving to Toms River in 1999.

She is survived by:

Vincent J. Clarkin, 80 of Toms River , passed away on Tuesday, February 24 at Community Medical Center

He worked as a conductor with Amtrak for 30 years and also worked as a claims adjuster for New York Life for 20 years. He was a member of the Brick Elks, Lodge #2151. He served in the US Marine Corps during World War II. Born and raised in Manhattan , NY , he lived in Brick before retiring to Toms River 10 years ago. He was predeceased by his wife Marilyn Clancy Clarkin in 2007.

He is survived by his children: Bobby and Audrey Clarkin of Brick; Edward and Debi Clarkin of Toms River; David and Laura Clarkin of Brick; Vicki and Steve Harris of Texas; and Jim Clarkin of Louisiana, and his 7 grandchildren: Jillian, Matthew, Katie, Kelly, Michelle, Kristina and Taylor.

Calling hours will be held from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River .

David F. Barnett, 82, of Pine Beach passed away at home on Friday, Feb. 6, 2009 .

Beloved husband of the late Jane (2004) he is survived by six children; Robert Barnett, June Barnett, Sheryl Barnett, Jerome and Donna Barnett, Edward and Diane Barnett and Richard Barnett. Six grandchildren; Audra and John Yacka, Michael and Darla Reed, Justyn Hosier, McKenzie Barnett, David and Elliot Barnett and their mother Mary Mitchell Barnett; six great grandchildren; Joey, Syvanna, Zoe, David, Dylan and Christian.

David was born and raised in Philadelphia . A talented musician, he played professionally for over sixty-six years. He was proud to be a lifetime member of the Philadelphia Musicians Union. He played with many Big Bands in the 40’s and 50’s getting his start at the famous Palumbos Night Club. Dave toured from New England to Texas with the Hal Macintyre, Mal Hallet and the Chan Chandler Bands along with limited engagements with Eddie Duchin and Fats Waller. Coming off the road he and his wife settled their family on Long Beach Island in 1956 where they owned Barnett’s Custard Stand, now known as the Islander Restaurant. He also served on the Ship Bottom Borough Council.

In 1965 he moved his family to Toms River where he was employed at the Jersey Shore Savings and Loan. In addition to his day job, he played with many local wedding and dance bands, most notably: The Murray Kay Band in Lakewood , the Blazers and the Joe, Mike, David Band in the Toms River area. David played at many Jersey Shore hot spots including the Anchor Inn and Olsen’s Bar and Grill.

In 1989 he retired to Putney , VT after twenty-six years as a Vice President of Jersey Shore Savings and Loan. While caring for his ailing wife, he played for many bands in Vermont and New Hampshire , most notably the American Legion Band and its Dixieland ensemble. He will be missed by his large family and many friends.

Friends are invited to celebrate David’s life with his family on Sunday, February 22, from 2 to 4 pm with a prayer service being offered at 3:30 pm at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River, NJ.  A memorial service will be held 6:30 pm on Monday, Feb. 23 at the Putney Meadows, 17 Carol Brown Way , Putney , VT. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the American Legion Band, 804 Guilford Center Road , Guilford , VT , 05301 , would be appreciated. Charles C. DeFranza, Sr., 97 of Toms River, died Thursday at Kensington Manor, Toms River

Charles was a printer and owned and operated Emerald Tag & Ticket Co., in Bloomfield for 40 years. He was a member of the Masonic Order in North Jersey and Florida . Born in Pen Argyl, PA, he lived in Caldwell and Florida before moving to Toms River . He was predeceased by his wife Ruth Samuels DeFranza in 2001.

Surviving are;
A son, Charles Jr.,; 2 daughters, Rosemarie Malanga and Lorraine Leming; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Rossetti and Lucy Grigas.

Friends are invited to call at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River on Monday from 9:00 am until service time at 10:00 am . Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery , North Arlington .

Jeanne Starace, of Toms River , passed away on Friday, January 23 at the Hospice Center of New Jersey in Wayne

Jeanne was the proprietor of 88 Park, a woman’s dress shop in Rutherford, she was an insurance agent with Prudential Insurance Co., Lyndhurst for 10 years and recently worked in sales at Boscovs of Toms River. Born in Paterson , she grew up in Carlstadt/East Rutherford, moving to Toms River 25 years ago.  Jeanne loved her family, her friends, life itself and the Boston Red Sox. She was predeceased by a son Gregg Starace in 2005.

Clare Pfeiffer Gebhardt Wilchuck, died peacefully on January 26, 2009 in the comfort of her home in Toms River. 

She was 75. Born July 4th 1933 in Bronx, New York, the daughter of Clara and William Matey. She lived in Hudson County for several years and moved to Toms River 31 years ago. She was a loving mother and friend and she will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her loving husband Michael Wilchuck and was a devoted mother of three daughters, Christine, Carol and Kathleen; six sons, Peter, David, Robert, William, Michael and Kenneth, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and her pooch Bailey.

She’s crystallized in every tear drop. She is the place that we came from, our first home, and she’s the map that we follow with every step we took. She’s our first love, our first heartbreak and nothing on earth can separate us. Not time, not space…not even death.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Clare’s life with her family on Monday, February 2, from 7 to 9 p.m. with an 8:30 pm service at the Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River.

Matthew F. Jodice, 79 of Beachwood, passed away Friday, January 23, at Bey Lea Village Nursing Home, Toms River

He worked for the US Government as a radioman with the US Navy for 19 years, retiring in 1966. He then worked as a salesman with JC Penny of Toms River in the furniture department for 15 years before retiring in 1989. He served in the US Navy during World War II, and the Korean War. He was a member of the US Navy Radioman Association, Norfolk, VA; USS Valley Forge Reunion Club; Fleet Reserve, Branch 124, Lakehurst; DAV, Chapter 35 of Tuckerton; American Legion, Post 129 of Toms River; AMVets, Post 2 of Jackson, and the US Navy Memorial Foundation of Washington, DC where he is a Plank Owner. Matthew was born and raised in Hoboken , NJ , he moved to Beachwood 40 years ago.
