Obituary of Walter A. Powell

Walter A. Powell, 70 of Toms River, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016. Walter was born in Buchanan, Virginia to George and Rose Lee Powell. He moved to Toms River in 1961 where he graduated from Toms River High School. He owned and operated Walter's Taxi Service in Toms River for over 15 years. Walter was predeceased by his father, George Powell, his first wife Betty Ann Powell, his second wife Janis Powell and a sister, Sandra Anderson. Surviving are his step daughter Nichole Komenda; mother, Rose Lee Hurst; two sisters, Patsy Pierson and husband Jay, Squeak Merkel and husband Bobby; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River on Thursday from 9:00 until the service time at 11:00. Burial will follow at Ocean County Memorial Park Cemetery, Toms River.
