Carmela Martin, 84 of Toms River, NJ, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at Raritan Bay Medical Center, Old Bridge, NJ. She was born on April 7, 1932, in Harrison NJ where she resided until 1973 when her family moved to Westfield, NJ. In 1994 she and her husband James became residents of Toms River. Carmela was a loving homemaker and mother of four daughters who maintained various part-time clerical jobs throughout the years. Always known for her gentle smile, beautiful faith in God, deep compassion and love of people, Carmela also volunteered at the Second Time Around consignment shop when she moved to Toms River. Carmela enjoyed music, old classic movies, and spending time with her beloved family and dear friends. Carmela had a gift for touching people's hearts by writing notes and cards of encouragement, and many recipients have treasured these notes of love. She touched the lives of many caretakers during her later years through her kind, patient demeanor and grateful heart. Carmela was predeceased by her parents, Teresa and August Ciminello along with her sister, Grace Franco. The family requests that you think of Carmela every day the sun shines, and live a life in her honor, full of gratitude and love for the Lord. Carmela is survived by her husband of 58 years, James and her daughters Teresa Tivenan, husband Paul, Diane McNamara, husband Kevin, Maureen Buehler husband Tom, Gina Martin and husband Craig Pollins. Carmela also delighted in her nine grandchildren: Kathryn, Meagan, Daniel, John, Stephen, Molly, Ryan, Rachel, and Colin. She is also survived by her dear nephew, Vincent Franco along with other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, March 30, from 5 to 8 at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River, NJ 08753. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 11:00 A.M. at St. Maximilian Kolbe RC Church, Toms River. Burial will be private.
