Marie C. Serrao Obituary

Marie joined the Angels on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, after a brief illness. She was born in British Guiana on July 9, 1927, and wed her "only and forever love" Jerome Serrao on July 19, 1945, and the young couple emigrated to the U.S. in 1948. They spent their first 10 years in New York then moved to their dream home in Toms River, NJ in 1959 where she remained until her passing.

Marie is predeceased by her husband, Jerome; mother and father, Mary and Vincent Ferreira; sisters, Linda and Genevieve; brothers, Vincent, Frank, and Theodore and his wife Patricia; niece, Jean, and nephews, Stanley and Jerome.

Marie also left behind her beloved niece, Dolores who was more like a daughter and provided her with unconditional love and care. Marie was a loving mother to Patricia, and grandmother to Lorraine (Derek), and Jeremy (Carrie), and a doting great-grandmother to Kaira and Ashlin.

She leaves behind her sister, Celes Camacho; two sister-in-laws, Olive and Perpetua Ferreira: niece, Marie, and nephews, Norbert (Evelyn) and Paschal (Joanne) also at least 40 other nieces and nephews from the Serrao, Ferreira, Vieira, DeFreitas, Camacho, Escource families. Seems like a lot, but somehow she was organized and cared enough to maintain good relationships with all of her relatives, always doing so "her way."

We have lost the "Hub" of our wheel, but may the love that she shared continue to be the "tie that binds" and keep us all close at heart as this is what she would want and would keep her memory alive. May she rest in peace.

Visitation will take place on Monday, April 17, 2023, from 4 - 7 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Interment to follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
