Donald M. Van Dyke Jr, 85, of Jackson, NJ, passed away on August 13, 2024. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Donald was born in Swoyersville, PA, where he spent his formative years. After graduating from Swoyersville High School, he proudly served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1963. Moving to Queens, NY, he later became a Marine Transportation Dispatcher at Morania Oil Tanker Corporation, Manhattan, NY, and retired from there as a Purchasing Agent working in the shipyard in Staten Island, NY. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.

But more than anything, Donald was a devoted husband and father. Donald and his wife Jean (Krupa) lovingly raised their family in Spotswood, NJ, and after retirement, moved back to Pennsylvania. He loved spending time with his family and was always there to offer guidance, support, and encouragement, no matter what challenges they faced.

In his free time, Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, carpentry, cooking, camping, and vacationing. He was always eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with others. He was a member of The American Legion, Post 4589, Spotswood, NJ, and the Whitestone Masonic Lodge, Queens, NY.

Donald was preceded in death by his wife of over 60 years Jean (Krupa) Van Dyke in 2021. Surviving are his children, Susan and Stephen Gasser of Jackson, NJ, Donald and Janett Van Dyke of Jackson, NJ, and Jason Van Dyke and Donald Mensch of Pennsburg, PA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Anthony, Rachel, Michelle, Olivia, Donald, and John. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him.

A private military funeral service will be held for his family at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery. A celebration of life is planned for September, details to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to any military organization in Donald’s name.
