I first met the Remarkable Rita when I moved to Toms River in 1971 and began teaching at then St. Joseph High School. During the following years I had the pleasure of teaching three of her wonderful sons. Rita was the kind of parent every teacher wants in her corner: supportive, but not intrusive, concerned, but not overbearing. A true pillar of the community, a role model for young women and young men, yours was a life well led in every way, Rita, Rest in Peace.

Heartfelt condolences to the Kearney family. Rita’s legacy will live on in the St. Joseph Parish because of her many years of dedication and support. Many community organizations have been enriched by her participation. Rest peacefully “Sweet Reet.” Your love lives on in your children and grandchildren.

Our love and condolences to the Kearney family on the loss of their dear mother and matriarch Rita. I’m blessed and fortunate to include Mike as one of my oldest and dearest friends, Among my many memories are the countless gatherings and “hangs” at the Kearney home, where the Judge and Rita always welcomed us with open arms, warmth and laughter. My brothers and I as St. Joe’s alums, and later our wives and children, all came to be familiar with Rita’s warmth and hospitality. After having relocated north to MA and ME after college, I was always moved by how warmly my family and I were greeted by Rita on those infrequent occasions when we traveled south to visit family and was able to swing by to see Mike and Kim and my lifelong St. Joe’s friends. My memories of Rita will always recall her love of family and the extension of that love to anyone lucky enough to be part of her family’s orbit. God bless you Rita…

Sincerest condolences to the Kearney family.
Rita’s energy and generosity were boundless.
Communities grow and thrive when they are blessed with wonderful people like Bill and Rita.
They set a great example for my mother and father as parents and Christians.

Hard to imagine our world without our Rita. I met her through Interfaith Family Services over 25 years ago and in her I found a true HERO. Her tireless commitment to the homeless in our community was infectious.
May her memory be a blessing to us all.
