Robert Stern Obituary

Robert (Bob) Stern, 91, of Island Heights, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025. Born in Trenton, NJ, Bob moved to Toms River at a young age where he grew up and attended Toms River High School.

Known for his tremendous work ethic, Bob began working early in life, which ultimately led him to becoming a founding member of Dover Pool Products in 1965. Under his direction, the company experienced continuing growth and is still in business today. Bob also built and operated Wading Pines Campgrounds in Chatsworth for many years with his partner and their wives. He served for a number of years as a volunteer fireman with the Pleasant Plains Fire Department. He also served on the Planning Board of Island Heights Borough.

Bob officially retired just seven years ago yet remained actively involved in the business by staying connected and offering guidance to his son, Bobby, who is continuing his legacy. He enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife, Kathy, and together they created many fond memories along the way.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, Sebastian and Theresa; his sisters, Carol and Patricia; his grandson, Nicholas Stern; and his son-in-law Mallory Bumgarner.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Kathleen Stern; his children Suzanne McAleer (Steve), Karen Stern, Robert “Bobby” Stern (Janice), and Matthew Stern (Kristen); his grandchildren Justin, Adam, Brian, Melissa, Jason, Carley and Charlie; as well as numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss his presence.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Toms River, NJ.
