James F. Howell, Sr., age 64, of Toms River, peacefully ascended to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 3, 2025. Born in Jersey City and raised in the nurturing community of Manalapan, James was a beacon of strength and inspiration to all who knew him.

A proud graduate of Manalapan High School, James answered the call of duty by joining the United States Air Force immediately after graduation. His commitment to service continued as he graduated from the Police Academy, dedicating 23 years of his life to the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office, where he rose to the rank of Captain before retiring in 2008. He was also a Master Mason.

James was a devoted member of New Beginnings Church since 2014, where he found joy and purpose in his faith. He passionately led his own ministry, Back Row Ministries, and was known for his heartfelt evangelism, reaching out to those in need. His powerful public speaking inspired countless individuals, offering hope and encouragement to those navigating their own struggles.

An avid fisherman, James found solace and joy in the tranquility of nature, often spending time by the water with his beloved dogs, Bailey and Kayla. He was also a proud volunteer of the Ocean County Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.), where he continued to serve his community with dedication and compassion.

James is predeceased by his loving parents, H. Gerald and Joan Howell, and his cherished companion dog, Bailey.

He is survived by his beloved wife of six years, Pallas; his sons, James Jr., Jeremy, and Christian; his siblings, Jacqueline, Jerilyn, Joni, and Jerry; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will forever hold his memory in their hearts.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 11 – 1 at New Beginnings Church, 236 Brick Boulevard Brick, NJ 08723. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made in James’s name to: MA22.org “No Veteran left behind.”

James F. Howell, Sr. will be deeply missed, but his light will continue to shine through the lives he touched and the love he shared.
