Bonnie S. Hmielewski, 69, of Toms River, departed this earthy world on January 20, 2026, at home and with her family at her side. Bonnie lived gently, loved deeply, and found meaning in the everyday moments that truly matter. She worked hard, remained fiercely loyal to those she loved, and carried herself through life with grace, pride, and gratitude.
Born in Lakewood, NJ to Fred and Catherine Andres, Bonnie spent her early years in Brick, NJ, where she graduated from Brick Township High School, before making her home in Toms River, where she raised her family and spent the last 45 years of her life building traditions, friendships, and a home filled with love.
Being a mother was not just a role for Bonnie; it was her calling. She was deeply proud of her daughter and son and their spouses, Allison lannaccone and her husband Daniel, and Jason and his wife Monica. But being a Nana was her pure joy! Her grandchildren - Brielle, Jay Jay, Braden, and Chase - were the center of her world. She showed her love in countless thoughtful ways like never arriving to see her grandchildren without dessert treats, handwritten birthday cards filled with heartfelt words that will be treasured always, and picking up little trinkets for her family that she knew they would love.
Bonnie believed in the beauty of a simple life, and she was sincerely thankful for its blessings. She kept a meticulous home, never left the house without lipstick and perfume, and took pride in always being nicely dressed. She cherished her monthly hair appointments and the small routines that made her feel like herself.
For more than 30 years, Bonnie worked in the automotive sales industry, where she formed meaningful, lasting friendships - especially during her time at Larson Ford and Pine Belt Cadillac of Toms River. She was known for loving old-fashioned birthday cakes with extra sugar flowers which she would enjoy during her entire birthday week, her legendary potato salad and meatloaf as well as her love of Christmas - often putting up her tree before Halloween. She brought warmth and humor wherever she went.
In addition to her children and grandchildren, Bonnie also leaves behind her former husband and the father of her children, Allen Hmielewski, with whom she always maintained a beautiful friendship that allowed her family to enjoy many holidays and special celebrations together. Her children remain eternally grateful for this relationship. She also leaves behind many extended family members, nieces, and nephews who were deeply loved and held close to her heart.
Bonnie's presence was steady, her love unwavering, and her spirit unforgettable. She will be deeply missed and forever carried in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know her.
A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 12 – 2 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River.
