Michael R. D'Ignazio, 89, of Whiting, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2026. Born in Peekskill, NY, Michael moved to Jersey City, NJ as a young boy, where he would later attend Snyder High School. His thirst for knowledge led him to take courses at St. Peter's College, shaping a thoughtful and well-rounded individual.
For 35 years, Michael dedicated his career as a Tab Room clerk for AT&T Lucent Technologies before retiring in 1991. His professional life, however, was only one facet of a man who was deeply passionate about art. A talented artist, he found joy in painting landscapes and southwestern scenes, often inspired by the beauty of the world around him. He was an active member of the Artist Club for a time, where he shared his creativity and enthusiasm with fellow art lovers. He won the 33rd annual senior citizens art exhibit award in 2009 for a mountainous landscape scene.
In 1974, Michael married his beloved wife, Eileen K. D'Ignazio, and together they built a life filled with love and shared dreams. They began their journey in Newark, NJ, in the Iron Bound section, moved to central Jersey where they resided for 20 years, lived in New Egypt for several years before settling in Whiting in 2017. Throughout his life, he cherished both his family and his country, embodying the spirit of loyalty and patriotism.
Predeceased by his beloved stepson, Dennis Nicholas Kleinknecht, Jr., his father, mother, and only brother, Rocco, and sister-in-law, Carol and her husband Robert Rodriguez.
Michael’s love of God, family, and country was of utmost importance to him. He was a devoted stepfather, grandfather, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and great-great uncle. His family included his adoring wife, Eileen K. D'Ignazio; grandchildren, Nathan D. Kleinknecht, Alexander J. (Maddie) Kleinknecht, Abigail E. Kleinknecht; and sister-in-law, Ruth D'Ignazio.
Beloved uncle of Susan E. D'Ignazio and her husband Vincent, Dr. James L. Rodriguez, D.M.D., Susan H. Ponzuric and her husband John, Gregory A. Rodriguez and his wife Caroline, Matthew R. Rodriguez and his wife Lena, Heather A. Bauer, R.R.T., and Fred Bauer, Douglas A. Rodriguez; great uncle of Mercedes L. Rodriguez, Jonus and Isaiah Ponzuric, Thomas and Catherine Rodriguez, and Myranda and Aidan Bauer; great great uncle of Julian Smith.
