Susanne D. Heaton, 73, of Forked River, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Susanne’s early life was shaped by adventure and movement, as her father’s military service carried the family to many corners of the world. Though she experienced the richness of many places and cultures, Nashville always remained her true home at heart, a place she cherished deeply throughout her life.

Susanne dedicated much of her professional life to diligent and meaningful work. She began her career as a temporary employee with AT&T in Holmdel as a Documentation Specialist. She later served as a Software Configuration Specialist and Senior Technical Writer for the New Jersey Civil Service Commission, bringing both skill and integrity to her work. She concluded her career at JCPenney, where she remained until her retirement. Through each chapter, Susanne was known for her strong work ethic and quiet determination.

Beyond her career, Susanne found her greatest joy in the simple and beautiful moments of life. She devoted her life to her four Grandchildren Christopher, Corey, Amber, and Eddie later adopting them! She had a deep love for gardening, especially her sunflowers and the hummingbirds they attracted. Her basil garden was more than just a hobby; it became a magical place where caterpillars were carefully gathered for her beloved grandson, Landon, to watch as they cocooned and emerged as beautiful butterflies. Landon was her sunshine, and she treasured every moment spent with him. Susanne also enjoyed Easter trips to the boardwalk, trying her luck at slot machines, exploring National Parks, and traveling, adventures she often shared with her late husband, James, whom she loved dearly. She was a kind and loving person with love for each and everyone.

Susanne was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Heaton; her parents, Edward and Betty Shelden; and her brothers, Edward and Daniel Shelden.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River, New Jersey.
