Marie T. Rideout Obituary

Marie T. Rideout, 93, of Lakewood, New Jersey passed away peacefully under hospice care at the Harrogate nursing facility. Marie was born in 1932 in New Brunswick to parents Mary and Sam

Guccione. She graduated New Brunswick High School followed by the nursing program at St. Peter’s Hospital and attained the position of head nurse of its pediatrics department. She met her husband, Earl E. Rideout, an enlistee with the US Air Force who was subsequently stationed overseas. Upon his return, the couple started a family settling in Milltown.

Marie’s affection for children extended her entire career including many years as grade school nurse in Englishtown/Manalapan. She kept active in local politics as a life long ‘Democrat’ and civic causes including the Lion’s Club women’s auxiliary and the Library Club. Upon retirement, she and Earl resettled down the shore in their Midway Beach bungalow and enjoyed extensive travel across county from New England to Alaska until Earl was stricken with illness. After his passing, she spent winters with her son and daughter-in-law on the Mississippi Gulf Coast helping to run their women’s shoe store. Eventually, Marie made the difficult but necessary decision to vacate the bungalow for independent living at Harrogate where she renewed interests in a variety of social and Catholic services.

Marie was an avid fan of sports especially the NY Yankees offering strong criticism of their manager whenever they fell short. She also enjoyed attending Scarlet Men’s Basketball games at court-side with her dear friend, Joan Maggio.

She is survived by her son, David Rideout and his wife Jan.
