Marlene Palumbo Obituary

Marlene Palumbo, 79, of Toms River, passed away peacefully at home on May 9, 2026. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, Marlene was a proud graduate of Nutley High School. She would go on to find love on Valentine’s Day in 1964, embarking on a beautiful journey with her husband, Donald J. Palumbo, which lasted a remarkable 57 years.

Marlene was a devoted mother to her two children, nurturing them with love and compassion. Her professional career was dedicated to education; from 1990 to 2007, she served as a Special Needs Paraprofessional at the Windsor Learning Center in Pompton Lakes and later worked at Silver Bay Elementary School until 2015. In 2007, she and her beloved family settled in Toms River, where Marlene continued to leave a lasting impact on those around her.

Her love for animals was unparalleled. Marlene passionately supported the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, where she volunteered her time, embodying her belief in kindness and compassion. She was also an active member of the Algonquin Arts Theatre in Manasquan, where she volunteered as an usher. As a parishioner and rosarian at St. Justin's Roman Catholic Church in Toms River, Marlene found joy in her faith and community.

Marlene was predeceased by her beloved son, Thomas Palumbo.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Donald; her daughter, Kristen DeGrazio, and her husband Michael; her cherished grandchildren, Karlee Palumbo, Giuliana DeGrazio, and Gabriella DeGrazio; her daughter-in-law, Lauren Palumbo; her loyal dog Erin, and Erin’s dog cousin, Starry. Marlene also treasured her friendships with Carol and Maryann.

A memorial gathering will be held in her honor on Sunday, May 17, 2026, from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Kedz Funeral Home, located at 1123 Hooper Avenue, Toms River.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Marlene's name may be made to the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, 185 Brick Boulevard, Brick, NJ 08723.
