Jackie, 84 of South Seaside Park, NJ passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 19th, 2026.
He was a proud son of Newark, NJ, having been born and raised in the city. Throughout his lifetime, he regaled many stories from his youth in the West Ward’s 14th Ave. neighborhood. After starting a family, he moved to Colonia, NJ and then Cranford, NJ where he raised his family. Upon retirement, he moved to South Seaside Park where he lived out his remaining years very much enjoying the jersey shore lifestyle.
Jackie dedicated his life to serving others, first as a valiant veteran of the United States Army, First Cavalry Division during the Korean War. Later, he devoted 43 years to law enforcement service, including 31 years with the Newark, NJ Police Department and 12 years with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. Jackie truly relished being a Newark cop.
He was predeceased by his parents Mary and Peter Clarkin, and siblings, Patricia Dunn, (nee Clarkin), Margaret “Peggy” Lee, (nee Clarkin) and James Clarkin.
Jackie is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Ann, his daughter Michelle and son Jack. He is also cherished by his grandchildren, Peter, Carson, Jackson & Ella, and many dear friends and extended family members who will remember him for his kindness, generosity, sense of humor, infectious smile, Irish ‘gift of gab’, easy manner and unwavering dedication to his family.
Throughout his lifetime, Jackie exemplified the true meaning of service and commitment, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength and humility. He will be deeply missed but forever remembered in the hearts of the many people he touched.
