John Douglas ‘Doug’ Ficken, 59 of Ortley Beach section of Toms River , passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at his home. Born in Wyckoff , NJ , Doug grew up in Oakland and lived in Jefferson Township before moving to the beach 5 years ago. Doug was a self employed construction contractor and worked in the North Jersey and shore areas for many years. He was a loyal and fiercely devoted Army Football Fan, Butler Bulldog Fan and an avid golfer. He was lovingly known as ‘Gramps’ by his family and adored his grandchildren, spending most of his time with them. He is survived by: His loving wife of 25 years, Betsy (nee Daley) Daughter: Shelli Daley Taggart and her husband Michael, of Butler , NJ Stepson: William Knipper, of North Las Vegas , Nevada , and his wife Renee, 5 loving grandchildren: MJ Taggart, John Liam Taggart, Archer Knipper, Serenity Knipper and William Knipper, V. Brothers: Daniel Ficken of Santee , CA and Mark Ficken, Ringwood , NJ Sister: Darlene Ficken, Edmeston , NY He is also survived by many nieces and nephews as well as many close and caring ‘Doug’ fans. Friends may call at Bermingham’s Funeral Home, 216 South Main Street , Wharton on Saturday February 6, 2010 from 12-2. Doug supported his daughter’s efforts with Breast Cancer and the family is requesting donations in lieu of flowers be made to the Avon Breast Cancer Walk, c/o Shelli Taggart, 35 Bartholdi Avenue, Butler, NJ 07405. Kedz Funeral Home, Toms River is in charge of arrangements.
