Obituary of Dorothy Downey

Dorothy "Dot" Downey, 92 of Toms River, passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. Born in Plainfield on April 4, 1919, she resided in North Plainfield and graduated from North Plainfield High School in 1937. Dorothy worked for Western Electric in Kearney for several years, before marrying Francis Downey in 1945. They were summer residents of Toms River, purchasing a home there in 1951. She lived in North Plainfield and later moved to Greencastle, PA, living there for several years before settling in Cedar Glen, Toms River. In recent years she spent her winters in Corolla, NC. Dorothy enjoyed extensive traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 35 years, Francis Downey in 1980, her parents Charles & Mary Kreutzfeldt, and two brothers, Charles & William Kreutzfeldt. Surviving are her children, Judith Miller and her husband John of Corolla, NC, and Thomas Downey and his wife Patricia of Punta Gorda, FL.; four granddaughters, Wendy Long of Riverview, FL, Francine Miller of Riverview, FL., Kelly Mitchell of Toms River, Kimberly Downey of Wilmington, NC; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Visitation will be held Monday, May 2nd at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River at 9:00AM until the service at 10:30AM. Interment will follow at the Hillside Cemetery, Plainfield, NJ.
