Obituary of Michael Muzyka

Michael Muzyka, 94 of Ortley Beach, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at the Arbors Care Center. He was a loving and caring husband of 70 years who enjoyed gardening, boating and fishing. He was employed as a first class carpenter at American Cyanamide of Linden, and then owned and operated Muzyka's Grocery in Carteret with his wife Anna. He also worked for US Metals of Carteret and Fedders Corp. of Edison. Michael was a member of St. Demetrious Ukranian Orthodox Cathedral in Carteret and was a member of the mens club. He was a member of the Theodore Roosevelt Masonic Lodge #219 F&AM of Carteret and was a Knights Templar. He was a member of the VFW Star Landing Post 2314 in Carteret and the Moose Lodge of Ortley Beach. Michael proudly served in US Army during World War II and was a member of the VFW Star Landing Post 2314 of Carteret. Born in Carteret on Sept. 28, 1917, he lived there until retiring to Ortley Beach in 1983. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Anelia Muzyka, and three sisters, Josephine Kahora, Julia Knapick and Stella Kahora. Surviving are his beloved wife of 70 years, Anna; son Michael and his wife Lynn; daughter Arlene Taylor and her husband Tom; brother, John Muzyka; sisters Mary Pszczola and Sophie Wutkowsky; four grandchildren; 10 Great Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held Wednesday, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 am Thursday at St. Demetrius Ukranian Orthodox Cathedral, 645 Roosevelt Ave., Carteret.
