Obituary of George Adamiak

George Adamiak 89, of Berkeley Twp., passed away, Tuesday, February 14, 2011. He worked as a master welder for many years in Poland. He belonged to the Polish Social Club of Toms River. George was known for his voice and enjoyed singing. During the Second World War, he served in the Polish Home Army. He was wounded during the Warsaw uprising of 1944 and taken to the POW camp in Darmstadt, Germany (Stalag 13). He was liberated in 1945 by American Army Troops. He served in a special Corp under US Army Command until 1947 when he immigrated to the United States. He was born in Warsaw, Poland and lived there until moving to Brooklyn and Queens, NY. He then retired to Berkeley Twp., 20 years ago. He is survived by his wife Jadwiga Adamiak who he married in 1945 when both were freed from the POW Camps; a daughter Dr. Wanda Grochowski of Katonah, NY; and two grandson, Adam and John Paul. Visitation will be held Thursday from 1:30 to 5:30 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A Funeral Litergy will be offered 9:30 am Friday, at St. Maximilian-Kolbe Catholic Church, Followed by burial at Our Lady of Czestachowa Cemetery, Doylestown, PA.
