On 9/7/2021, George Herman Hege, Sr., aged 93 1/2 yrs, passed away in the home he shared with his wife Dorothy Terry. The son of John C Sr. and Rhoda G. Hege, he had 7 siblings, all now deceased. Raised on the family farm in Mercersburg, PA, he went on to attend Philadelphia College of the Bible where he met and subsequently married, his first wife, Betty Woleslagle Hege, on 8/1/1952. They were blessed with three children and raised them in Altoona, PA where they were very actively involved in their churches, Calvary Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. After 51 years at their home on Emerson Ave. in Altoona Betty's worsening Alzheimer's Disease led to their move to Bellflower Ct. in Toms River, NJ in order to have closer family support. Betty passed away there on 9/22/2006. George lived alone for 8 more years with the friendship and support of many friends, relatives, and neighbors. He was praying earnestly for another Christian wife and was blessed with meeting Dotty at Ocean County Baptist Church where they were wed on June 6, 2015. Surrounded by family and friends in his last days, George went on to his heavenly home after a long battle with Congestive Heart Failure. He is survived by Nancy and husband Alfred Wollen, Linda Rife (widow of Mearle Rife, Jr), and Dr. George Jr. and wife Linda Allen Hege. Grandchildren include: Stephanie and husband Jason Shanbarger, and their 3 children; Aaron and wife Victoria Steele; Ryan and wife Yolanda Forney, and their 2 children; Tara and husband James Apgar, and their 3 children; Nathan Hege (deceased); Elisabeth and husband Justin Reese, and their 3 children; Sean Forney (deceased); and Bryan and his wife Jenna Hege. George is also survived by his 5 step-children: Brenda Eldredge, Gail Plante, Jackie Coda, Debbie Watson, and Ray Terry. Funeral service is being held at Ocean County Baptist Church, 1380 Old Freehold Rd. Toms River, NJ 08753, on 9/18/2021 @ 11AM followed by a luncheon in the Sportatorium.
