Obituary of Walter H. Bodie

Walter Bodie, 65 of Toms River passed away suddenly on Monday, May 15, 2023. Walter was born in Jersey City, NJ, and raised in Jackson, NJ. In high school, Walt was a talented football player playing defensive end. Afterward, Walt joined the US Army and served as a tank mechanic while stationed in Germany. After being honorably discharged, he started working in the landscaping business which he made his career for over 30 years. Walt was a talented pool player, and a huge sports fan, especially of the NY Giants, NJ Devils, and Miami Hurricanes. Walt loved listening to the music of Led Zeppelin, Bob Seger, and Kenny Chesney. Walter is predeceased by his parents Walter James and Helga Bodie (Whiting, NJ), and three sisters Evelyn Kelly (West Creek, NJ), Fran Recker (Forked River, NJ), and Carol Cesario (Ephraim, PA). He is survived by two sisters Helga Venegas (Miami, FL) and Ellen Peters (Barnegat, NJ). He is also survived by the loves of his life his children Rich, Angela, Kyle, Gianna, Markus, and Madison. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, July 15th at 10:30 am in the sanctuary of The First United Methodist Church at 129 Chestnut Street Toms River, NJ. Coffee and desserts will follow afterward in the church’s Family Life Center. Cremation was handled by Ocean County Memorial Park via Kedz Funeral Home in Toms River. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Walt’s memory to any foster care organization. Foster care was near and dear to Walt, as he adopted 3 children through foster care and fostered many others.
