Obituary of Gigi Fritz

Geraldine Fritz died peacefully at home on Saturday, November 18th, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Englewood, NJ and grew up in Fort Lee, NJ. As an adult, she lived in Pennsylvania and north Jersey before settling in Toms River to raise her family. Once in Toms River, Gerrie raised her children in a neighborhood alongside a group of moms who became lifelong friends. They enjoyed Ladies Nights, Atlantic City trips, cookie exchange parties every Christmas, block parties, game nights, and “Moms’ Night Out” activities. The tight-knit group was an early lesson for her children in the beauty and value of loyal friends. After the sudden loss of her husband at the young age of 42, Gerrie had to shift from being a stay-at-home mom to entering the work force full-time to best provide for her four children. The strength and perseverance she displayed during that time was inspiring to many. After working a few administrative assistant jobs in local offices, Gerrie found a home at Ocean County Vocational Technical Schools, first at the Brick school location and then at the Superintendent’s office in Toms River. There, her supreme organizational skills and ability to multi-task were on full display. She retired in 2019 after a fulfilling career to focus on spending time with family and enjoying hobbies, such as reading, cooking, gardening, crocheting, watching her grandchildren play sports, and seeing Broadway shows with her daughters and friends. While she was known as Gerrie to most, her favorite name to be called was Gigi, a name given to her by her first-born grandson many years ago. Seven other grandchildren have been lucky enough to call her Gigi since then. The pride and love she felt for her four grandsons and four granddaughters was immeasurable. Gigi is predeceased by her husband, Richard Fritz, and her parents Francis and Agnes Maylath. She is survived by her loving and dedicated children, Michael Fritz and his wife Darlene, Kristen Nagle and her husband Nick, Allison Fritz, and Andrea Boturla; her eight grandchildren, Jake Nagle, Kaylee Nagle, Emma Nagle, Joseph Nagle, Samantha Fritz, Katelyn Fritz, Jake Boturla and Matthew Boturla. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Marzocchi, brother-in-law Robert Marzocchi, nephew Daniel Marzocchi and niece Carrie Marzocchi. She also leaves behind friends who became family. She will be dearly missed by all, but she will live on in the many hearts she touched. Visitation will take place on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 9:00 - 11:00 am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 685 Hooper Avenue, Toms River. Interment to follow.
