Obituary of Robert J. Lightbody

Robert J. 'Bob' Lightbody, Sr., 78 of Toms River, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, March 21, 2014 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in New Rochelle, NY, Bob resided in Toms River most of his life. Bob was a Chemical Operator at Toms River Chemical Corp/Ciba Geigy, before retiring in 1991. He was a lifetime member of East Dover Fire Company, Station 28, joining as a volunteer firefighter in 1961. He also volunteered at the Salvation Army, Toms River Citadel for many years. Bob was known best for his sense of humor, love for scrapping metals and frequent visits at the Fischer Bay Shop Rite. His family was the love of his life and he spoke with great pride of his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Della (Rayner) and Robert, his son Robert, Jr., his sister Barbara (Banfield), his granddaughter Jennifer and grandson David Halliwell. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Carol Lightbody; three daughters, Cindy Weyandt and her husband Charles, Lisa Fortuna and her husband Jim, Tracey Santomauro; son Matthew Lightbody and his wife Debbie; 21 grandchildren; 22 Great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson. He is also survived by 4 brothers, John, William, Roden, James and George. Visitation will be held at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm, with a Fireman's Service at 8:00pm.
