Richard W. Heagen 79 of Toms River, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010 at VanDyke Hospice Care Center in Toms River .
Richard worked for the Toms River Parks and Recreation Department for 15 years as a refrigeration engineer, retiring in 1993. He proudly served in the United State Marines. Richard was a skilled archer and a member of the Bow Benders of Jackson Township. He was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church. Born and raised in Jersey City he moved to Toms River in 1962.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Angela Costa Heagen; four children, Susan Snyder of Toms River, Judy Ullmann of Knoxville, TN, Richard of Delray Beach, FL, and Matthew of Toms River; a sister, Doris Brown of Danville, CA; and nine loving grandchildren, Christopher, Alexis, Whitney, William, Tara, Ryan, Matthew, Luke and Caroline.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 on Tuesday at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave. , Toms River . Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 9:30 am Wednesday at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church, St. Maximilian Lane, Berkeley Twp. Interment services and military honors will follow at the Brig. General Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery , Arneytown , NJ .
