Julia Masciangelo, 90, of Toms River , passed away on Saturday January 2, 2010 , at home, with her son Bill and family friend Gabe Pastore at her side. Born in Minersville , PA she lived most of her adult life in Pine Beach , NJ . She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1986. Julia is survived by her son Bill, a retired Marine officer, and currently a full-time pastor at New Hope United Methodist Church in Hertford , NC and his wife Susan; 4 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. Her brother Ralph Phillips of Del Ray Beach, FL is the only surviving sibling. She worked passionately as the administrative assistant for the County Engineer in the Ocean County Engineering Department for over 30 years. Most of her free time, was supporting her husband at Admiral Farragut Academy (AFA) and some of her fondest memories are of the parades, concerts, dances and sporting events held at the academy each year. She truly loved all aspects of her life and embraced life with gusto. Those who knew her would agree. Julia was a member of St. Joseph ’s Church of Toms River, the local organ club and was an avid bridge player as well. She relished her lifelong friends from the local area and the alumni from AFA. She had great stories to tell about Pine Beach , Toms River and the early days living there. We are so glad we got to hear them all. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 24th, at New Hope United Methodist Church 2098 New Hope Road, Hertford, NC. 27944. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Julia to the William R. Masciangelo Sr. Student Enrichment Fund C/O Admiral Farragut Academy 501 Park St. N.
