Obituary of Peter John Opdyke

Peter John Opdyke, Sr., 73 of Manchester Twp., passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016. Peter worked for Coca-Cola as a truck driver for many years before starting his own trucking business known as Double Down Trucking. He and his wife Roberta also owned a 7-11 store in Matawan. Peter was also a proud veteran having served in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. He had been a member of the Sportsman's Club of Beachwood and the American Legion Post 129, Toms River. Born and raised in New York, he lived in Toms River before moving to Manchester 47 years ago. Peter was predeceased by his son Sean Brian Opdyke in 1972. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Roberta Kaufman Opdyke; son Peter J. Jr., and his wife Holly; daughter, Debra Ann Burton and her husband Steve; two grandchildren, Sean Anthony Opdyke, Sarah Ann Burton; and nephew David John Opdyke. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. A funeral service will held 11:00 am Wednesday at the funeral home.
