Jerome K. "Jay" Gantner, 77, of Toms River, passed away Tuesday, February 16, 2016 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Jay was a Master Plumber and a licensed Real Estate Broker. He was the owner and instructor of NJ Taekwondo Academy in Beachwood and held a 5th degree black belt. Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Lyndhurst moving to Toms River in 1960. He was predeceased by his parents Nicholas & Delia (Episcopo) Gantner, two brothers, Nicholas and Dennis Gantner, a sister Florence Donaldson, his former wife Patricia Gilbert and Grandson Bryan Gantner.
Surviving is his sister Geraldine DeFalco, mother-in-law Alice Gilbert, sister-in-law Eleanor Gilbert, his children, Jeanette Liput and husband Raymond, Christopher and wife Linda, Kenneth, Mark and wife Diana; 14 grandchildren, Sandy, Jenna, Katey, Patricia, Danielle, Carly Mark, Jessica, Richie, Alexandra, Kelley, Chrissy, Alyssa and T.J.; and 8 great-grandchildren Angelina, Desiree, Erik, Madyson, Alexis, Justin, Aiden and Leah. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be held Friday, 7 to 9 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 am Saturday, at St. Joseph's Church, Hooper Ave., Toms River. Please meet the family at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations made in his memory to Ocean of Love, 1709 Highway 37 East, Toms River, NJ 08753 would be appreciated.
