Obituary of Robert E. Barnett

Robert (Bob) E. Barnett, 71, of Pine Beach, NJ, died at the Haven Hospice in JFK Medical Center, Edison on March 12, 2017. He survived eight years with Alzheimer's and was cared for at the NJ Veterans Memorial Home of Menlo Park since 2010. Bob was born April 19, 1945 in Philadelphia. In 1955 the family moved to Long Beach Island, NJ. Bob became an avid fisherman, animal lover and hunter, hunting for many years in Barnegat Bay and Goves Island. He graduated from Southern Regional High School in 1964 and joined the US Navy through an 85 day program the summer before he graduated. During that time he served on a ship that was sent south to Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He then served full time from May 1964 through 1967 then remained in the reserves through 1969 at Lakehurst Naval Station. Bob worked at Larson Mortgage Corp. / Cenlar Federal Saving Bank for 26 years. He then continued to work for at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Toms River for 16 years. He was predeceased by his mother, Jane and father David. Bob is survived by two sisters, June and Sheryl; three brothers, Jerome, Edward and Richard; as well as nieces and nephews. On Friday, April 7, 2017, at 1:00 pm, there will be a graveside ceremony, where his ashes will be interned at St. Joseph's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the NJ Veterans Memorial Home at Menlo Park, 132 Evergreen Road, Edison, NJ 08818-3013 would be most appreciated.
