Melanie and I worked summer school together for 7 years in a program called, "bridging the gap" between 6th and 7th grade. I loved working with her-- she was smart, funny, and one of the best reading teachers I've ever worked with. She taught me much. Over the summers we developed a friendship that extended beyond the classroom. A great time with Melanie was a quiet meal out, a glass of wine, and of course chatter about some funny student stories. I will miss my friend and colleague.
