Obituary of John Fischer

John Fischer, III, 84 of Toms River, passed away peacefully with his wife at his side at the Green Acres Manor under Hospice care on July 25, 2017. John was born in Beachwood to Alice Goodrich and John Fischer, Jr. John grew up in Toms River and graduated from Toms River High School in 1950. After graduation John served in the U.S. Navy for 5 years during the Korean War. Upon returning home, John and Edna married. John and Edna owned and operated Fischer's Machine Works for 39 years. John served in the Navy Reserves, retiring in 1974. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Toms River where he served on many committees, sang in the church choir for many years and was active in the men's club. John also enjoyed singing with the Ocean County Oceanaires Chorus for many years. John was a member of the Toms River Rotary Club and the Sunrise Rotary Club of Toms River. He was also a member of the American Legion, Toms River Post #129. John was predeceased by his parents and step mother, Edythe (Sammy) Fischer. Surviving are his wife Edna; son John and his wife Leisa; two daughters, Joanne Fischer-Cottrell and Jeanne Brzozowski; three grandchildren, John Fischer, Stephanie Brzozowski, and Jennifer Brzozowski; and three great grandchildren. He loved them all. Services were held on July 28, 2017 in the chapel at the Ocean County Memorial Park in Silverton. The service was officiated by Pastor Ed Davis of the First United Methodist Church and Military Honors were rendered by the US Navy.
