Obituary of Marie Elena Santa

Marie Elena 'Laina' Santa, 75 of Toms River, passed away Saturday, September 29, 2018. Laina worked for Joseph Apuzzo, CPA in Brick as a bookkeeper for the past 19 years. Prior, Laina worked as a legal secretary in Newark for 30 years. She was a communicant of St. Catharine of Siena Catholic Church in Seaside Park. Laina was a member of the Toms River Elks, called Bingo at the East Dover First Aid and was an active volunteer at Community Medical Center. Born and raised in Newark, She lived in Kearny before moving to Toms River 27 years ago. She was predeceased by her first husband Lorenzo S. Freda and her second husband Alfred P. Santa. Marie Elena is survived by her son, Major Anthony Freda and his wife Marsha; 5 grandchildren, Lauren Nielson, Aneice, Isabella, Michael and Anthony Freda; 1 Great grandson; her companion, Jerry Filippone; a brother Steve E. Stefanelli; and a sister Carol Ann Penna. Visitation will be held Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River.
