Obituary of Helen M. Matthews

Helen M. Matthews, 97 of Toms River passed away January 18, 2019. Helen worked as a secretary with Liberty Mutual in East Orange for several years. Born in Newark, she grew up in Irvington graduating Irvington High School in 1939. She moved to Toms River in 1978. Helen was a communicant of St. Justin's Catholic Church where she was active as an aide with the Catechism Classes. She was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America, Court Patricia, who met at St. Joseph's Church. She was predeceased by her beloved husband George, her twin sister Florence Boylan and sister Julia Leonardis. Surviving are her son Eugene Matthews; daughter Carole Matthews; 2 grandchildren Nanci Conte and husband Mark, Peter Avallone and wife Jennifer; 7 great grandchildren, Brianna, Ryan, Megan and Kevin Conte, Kayla, Tyler and Jack Avallone. Visitation will be 8 to 9am on Saturday at Kedz Funeral Home, 1123 Hooper Ave., Toms River. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered 9:30 am at St. Justin's Church, 975 Fischer Blvd. Toms River.
