Irmgard was my mentor. She took me under her wing from my first day at Hoechst and taught me the ropes - how to decipher Nathan Akst's awful handwriting, how to read a D&B, where the cafeteria was. She was helpful but stern and that went out the window after work. Her bright smile lit our friendship of 60 years. The funniest memory - she could destroy an apple. She would finish it and hold it by its stem which held nothing but a few seeds and thinnest core; not an edible bit was left. My fondest memory - when she met my Mom and I felt the instand loving bond that lasted through these years. My deepest sympathy to Carol and Richard and family.
From my early childhood on I met Irmgard whenever she was in Ziegelhausen to visit her roots in Germany – for example her cousin who was my grandmother. I have fond memories of her and the whole family remembering that time.
When I visited the United States with my wife in 2009 we visited her in Toms River. She even joined Carol and Richard to pick us up by car in the centre of Philadelphia and we spent a wonderful day in Toms River.
I will remember Irmgard as very kind and optimistic – always a pleasure and positive feeling to talk to her.
